Owner description: St. Paul’s Catacombs are a typical complex of interconnected, underground Roman cemeteries that were in use up to the 4th century AD. They are located on the outskirts of the old Roman capital Melite (today’s Mdina), since Roman law prohibited burials within the city. St Paul’s Catacombs represent the earliest and largest archaeological evidence of Christianity in Malta. The site was cleared and investigated in 1894 by Dr A.A. Caruana, the pioneer of Christian archaeology in Malta.

Great little place to see how our forefathers lived. Children love it! However people who do not like dark, damp and enclosed spaces should stay away.

Interesting place. Do not miss a museum. Tour is offered every hour or every 30 minutes if there are enough people. If you need to wait, make sure to explain a small museum up on the second floor. Nice collection of Neolithic, Roman and even Egyptian antiquities. Catacomb themselves are interesting. Some of the loculi still have bodies in them. Interesting place of worship, perhpas the first church on Malta, and very fascintating and rare tables for funerary meals

Been to other catacombs but believe that these are the best....authentic tombs (some with remains still there) and impressive frescos in good condition. The small group tour around (seems to be quite often organised, so not too much time to wait) was great and really liked the explanation. Recommend to have a look at the museum upstairs whilst waiting to start the tour. A great collection of discoveries and old relics. Indeed worth a visit. Easy to reach from Mdina.

The museum is more like a personal collection of someon, because there are so many differend things. Liki skulls, things from egypt, rock colection, money collection....
The catacombs are nice, and the guide (looks like a gu y from India) is really nice and looks like he really enjoys his work, becaus he really likes to tell you about all the tings and he likes if you ask him something, so he can tell you more :)
