Only a couple of hundred metres from the main gate into Medina with free public car park in front of hotel (parking attendant will expect a small 'tip' €1-2).
To be honest the hotel needs a complete refurb as the rooms are old and tired with metal doors and suspended ceilings that you would expect to see in a 1970's office building! Would recommend you pay the extra for air con as stifling hot in late June. That said, for the location and reasonable price it was well worth the stay - we used the hotel twice - a week apart. Stayed in 2 different rooms - room 3 very large with a double and 2 twin beds with en-suite. Room 3 with double bed, shower and basin - strangely toilet is across hall - although private as you have the key! Both rooms have a great view over the island towards Valletta. The only other hotel in Mdina is £300 + per night... Staff all seemed quite helpful - if maybe a little slow in the cafe out front. Breakfast was a good selection. Would stay again if only for the location. Didn't use restaurant so cannot comment. 'Very good' rating given for location.

Point de vue is in a great location. It's on the outskirts of mdina (silent city). The views are amazing however don't let this fool you. During my stay, point de vue was a dreadful holiday experience. The management should seriously consider a fully refurbishment of the place and well trained staff. I have complained personally to the management. Customer service was dismal. Stay away from this place.

This guesthouse is in M'dina, not in Rabat. It's in front of a parking lot which is usually full, so it was difficult to find a place to park the car. M'dina is centrally located so it's a good base to explore the main island by car. From the guesthouse it's a short walk to the beautiful old town. The room has a nice view. There's wifi on the lobby. The restaurant is good but service is slow.

We had an unexpected night on Malta due to a severe storm that forced us to leave Gozo a day prior to our flight from Malta. What a treat we had at the Point de Vue as a last minute guest which came highly recommended by our local driver, Victoria. So glad they had room in this historic 12 room family owned guest house with a fabulous restaurant and the perfect structure to ride out Force 10 winds! We've never been so glad to be in a centuries old stone building as it withstood the storm and was full service during the 18 hours we were there. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner with the chef's African influence. I've never seen a chicken displayed so elegantly nor prepared with such delicious flavors. My husband's seafood dish was served in a cast iron skillet which he thoroughly enjoyed and raved about. The potatoes were well worth the extra carbs! The desserts tempted us as we entered the hotel and delivered all that was to be expected. The rooms are extremely large, the toilet in suite, Internet access was fast and the cost of the room including full breakfast of our choice extremely reasonable. Even better was the location within yards of the walled city's entrance. If staying in Malta, seriously consider this guest house. You won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor and enjoy the view of a vineyard and rolling hills.

What really stood out is the crappy service and by this i don't mean the waiters or waitresses who were more than helpful and very friendly. To start with, it took a whopping 30 minutes just to get our drinks and then another 45 minutes to get our food.
They did bring us two baskets of bread while we were waiting for the food, however, the bread they brought was french sliced bread and not the typical Maltese bread that we're accustomed to getting in Maltese restaurants. Apparently, they ran out of bread.

My tortellini was supposed to be with bacon, mushrooms and cream. Instead, i got a plate full to the brim with tortellini drowned in cream, exactly 3 slices of mushrooms and some kind of gammon instead of bacon.

My friends ordered meat and although some of them enjoyed their combos of meat and chicken, some of them were left waiting for their side order of mushroom sauce. Most of us ordered fillet steak (300g). The meat was dry and the side of salad and exactly 4 wedges left a lot to be desired. We could only choose between wedges and jacket potatoes. There was no option to order normal fries.

During my week-long stay the staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant seemed popular with locals and was fairly busy, even in early February. For EURO 28 for bed and breakfast (Feb 2012 rates) don't expect luxury but the Point de Vue is great value for money and, for me, it was an ideal base for exploring Malta as it's only two minutes on foot to the bus station.

Duration of our stay - 3 days

The good: Excellent location if you want to enjoy Rabat and visit the South-eastern side of Malta. Very good food in the Butcher's grill restaurant - however, you'll definitely wait the 40 min they mention on the menu! The breakfast was also very good. Basically all their food is really good.

The bad: Although our room was comfortable, the establishment is understaffed. One girl cleans all the rooms and she gets to it when she gets to it. The bathroom is tiny and there was never enough hot water for both my husband and myself to take a shower. Parking is nearly impossible. Although they mention that parking is available you will be extremely fortunate if you can find parking in a 6 block radius.

Overall we enjoyed the guesthouse, simply because we enjoyed the magic of Rabat where you can walk around and explore and come back to a nicely furnished guesthouse with good food, friendly staff and a nice vibe.
