“Paradoxically!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

A place in a modern world where time stopped somehow. 250 families are living in an old cities with a labyrinth of narrow streets, churches and palaces.
We took a horse coach and had a great experience of the entire place. But skipped the museums as were with two young children) but there are many of them there and I think they are worth visiting.

“Beautiful old town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

Amazing old town, very interesting historical buildings, cathedrals and museums. Even children enjoyed walking along interesting narrow streets (by the way the streets of Mdina are very clear comparing for example with ones in Bugibba)

“Lovely old town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

I would almost say I loved Mdina even more than Valletta. Its lovely windy narrow streets, the uniform color of the walls. It's a sin I stayed there only a couple of hours :(

the view from above was magnific
In the evening it should have been even nicer. Next time I will stay overnight there.

“a wonderful afternoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

We went to the Mdina on the hop on/off bus. We had a lovely afternoon at the Mdina walking around the streets, enjoying looking at the architecture and browsing in the shops. Then had a lovely break in the Fontalla Tea Gardens.

“Beautiful and atmospheric”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Making the effort to get here from Mellieha was definitely worth it - see Tripadvisor thread or go direct to 'How to get by in Malta' website for best bus route advice. This fabulous old walled hilltop city doesn't disappoint, even if it is a definite tourist trap. Going late afternoon we managed to avoid most of the pony-cab drivers and other hawkers but still found most of the craft and souvenir shops open. The honey-coloured stone and the narrow streets are so beautiful to wander round and the views from the city walls on the North side encompass half the island of Malta. Do have a look at the Fontanella Tea Garden built into the city walls - I challenge you not to be tempted by their famous cakes (see separate review)!
Don't miss the chance to wander around the town of Rabat which is just the other side of the bus stop. It too has narrow streets and old buildings with a profusion of churches, but it feels more alive.
