“Port view - a home on Malta”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

I had four wonderful days in the pitoresque fishing village of Marsaxlokk. The guest house Port view is a very good choise. My room on the third floor was large with a nice balcony with morning sun. The house was clean and tidy, and with delicate colours. The breakfast was very simple, but enough for my need. I travelled alone and had to pay for the room, unlikely other B&B´s where I payd for one person only; half price. In all, I will choose Port view again; the host is really ready to help.

Room Tip: A large room with a balcony with sea view was perfect for me.

Room had ample space and very clean. The owner gave us a room upgrade as soon as he realized that we have two little kids with us. Breakfast self-service and plenty of choice considering we stayed in a guesthouse. Although we had to make the check-out by 11am, the owner told us we can stay in the room until evening since there were no new arrivals in our room. We got more than we expected. Well done Carmel and keep it up!!!!!!!!!.

Room Tip: I cannot give a review on kids activities and swimming pool since this is a guest house and there is...

This new B and B was recommended at a previous accommodation on our holiday! Many thanks to those fellow travellers to Gozo, as we really enjoyed our 4 night stay here in Marsaxlokk....
Ours was obviously a late booking, so we didn't get one of the lovely large rooms with balconies on the second and third floors. However, we were well pleased with our double room on the fourth room - extremely clean, everything new, good bathroom, view of the harbour beyond other buildings from a reasonable sized window. Wifi in all places. Great air-conditioning. Quiet (and comfy king sized bed) for a good night's sleep. You can even make a cuppa in the kitchen when you come back after a day outand sit and trelax on the terrace. Just a minutes walk to the pretty fishing harbour with lots of local restaurants to choose from. Good continental breakfast taken either on the upstairs covered terrace or inside. Easy parking in the street. Harbour busy with the weekly Sunday market - buzzing. Bus close by to Valletta and other towns. Easy car ride into the three cities (20 minutes). Definitely worth a visit. The only downside of the accommodation for us was the view opposite which was a private empty piece of land which needs a good tidy - up.
The host, Charlie was so helpful, always trying to please his guests, and never without a smile -he deserves to do well in this new business!

Room Tip: ask for a front room on second or third floor with balcony if available. If not ours at number 43 wa...

Wonderful, brand-new clean rooms and excellent service by the very friendly host. Our room was missing a view but otherwise nice and large, clean bathroom, free wifi and lovely view of harbour from roof terrasse at breakfast. Selection at breakfast was limited but everything fresh and delicious. Easy parking and right by harbour. Great choice if you want to avoid the noisy tourist areas and large (often warn down) hotels further north. Cosy harbour (even though the power plant and free harbour are not so pretty) and some good restaurant - otherwise not much 'action'. But easy to get to Valletta and south coast areas.

I found this more of a hotel than a B and B. Charlie is a most gracious host. He responds to nearly every request. My room was #44 with a lovely view of the harbor. The furnishings were typical beach cottage. It was roomy. There are three sandy beaches in the general area - all within walking distance. As you face the harbor you can turn either right or left and follow the shore by sidewalk, promenade or path until you find the two most local beaches. I only found the one to the left - it is the most public and adjoins the harbor parking area: it was a typical beach, a little short in distance, some rubbish washed up as the weather was windy. A few stones as you walked into the water but then dirt bottom. The water was murky because of the weather but fine to swim and the sandy beach was welcoming enough to lie on for four or five hours. While walking the last afternoon I found the sandy beach on the right at the end of the harbor. Beyond this beach on the left keep walking and there is another sandy beach. No BarBQs allowed as the storage oil tanks are across the road. Keep in mind THESE are 3 out of a 10 beach but for me that beats a 8 rocky beach. If you want a nearby 9 or 10 rocky beach, great water, diving from cliffs into great pools of deep surf in a protected harbor walk over to St John's pool - about 2 km behind the electric plant. That was superb - no facilities, slightly difficult walk from the parking lot but to me great. This is a fabulous guesthouse and Marshaloxx is quite different from most beach areas in and around Malta. You want the Riviera go there. You want quaint, charming come here. This guest well deserves the 9.1 rating. I personally give it a 10.

This is a lovely B&B. We found the rooms to be of extremely high quality and the staff were helpful, friendly and extremely professional. The owner is very keen to ensure everyone has an enjoyable stay and is a mine of information about the island - so do ask if you are unsure. We arrived earlier than expected and did not want to drag our suitcases around. We called on the off-chance that we would be able to just leave our luggage. To say they went the "extra mile" was an understatement. I think this is a great place to stay and you will certainly not be disappointed. Marsaxlokk is also a wonderful place to stay. I think it is often overlooked for more of the higher profile resorts. What a shame...it is a hidden gem and a real taste of Malta. Definitely worth a trip and a stay at this wonderful B&B.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good. It is a very quiet village so you won't be disturbed. If the...

We have visited Malta but never stayed in Marsaxlokk before, Marsaxlokk is a picturesque fishing village with plenty of excellent restaurants, most of which overlook the beautiful harbour. The Portview Guesthouse is a lovely place to stay. The manager is very considerate and we were well looked after. The rooms are spacious and of a high standard, with good facilities as standard - Wi-Fi, a safe, fridge, hairdryer. They are clean and the beds are large and very comfortable. A big bonus is being able to enjoy a continental breakfast on the rooftop overlooking the harbour.
The bus service is quite frequent and easy to use, and there is a market on Sundays along the waterfront (which we sadly missed as we were not there on a Sunday). There are market stalls during the week along the front selling hand made lace items and other locally produced items.
We would definitely recommend this guest house, and hope to return.
