Nice little place, friendly knowledgable staff and decent price. The only thing that put me off was the lucky lucky men trying to sell items while we were waiting for food. It only happened once though so not a big problem. Food was good and quick service.

A good informal place for a dinner in marsaxlokk harbour. We wanted to try typical Maltese stewed rabbit before leaving and this restaurant fully satisfied us on a Monday, when most of the other restaurants were closed or only served fish. Service was good, although i must admit the room was not crowded at all. Everything for a really good price (less than 40 euro for 3 persons).

We had the set lunch menu yesterday having seen plenty of locals eating there. Had an outside table on the pavement which was fine. Service was poor - four times we asked for glasses for our mineral water. Fortunately one young waitress new her job and she looked after us. We were brought complimentary bruschetta which were good. Starters were also enjoyable but massive - in fact all portions were big - very flavoursome salmon and grouper served with chips, roast potatoes, grilled vegetables and salad! Plus bread! We were so full we could not manage the dessert. The waitress was disappointed so gave us the mineral water free! After tea and coffee we left very satisfied. You can pay twice as much at the smarter restaurants in Marsaxlokk. This is a family restaurant, maybe a bit hit and miss but we had a very good 3-course meal there for 32 euros including wine. The service was not great but almost provided a form of entertainment!

Had to queue so assumed it would be good - couldn't be further from the truth. Service was chaotic staff appeared clueless. Food took nearly two (yes two!) hours to arrive. All we had ordered was dishes of the day. I ordered the fish, my wife ordered the seafood platter. When it finally arrived (we were on the verge of walking out and wished we had) - it was without the bruschetta, the seafood platter was cold and had been clearly standing around, I've had better fish from Aldi and Lidl and the potatoes were swimming in oil. It had to be worst meal we'd had in Malta, possibly ever. We would have sent it back, if we could find a waiter(ess) to speak to. Surprisingly others seemed to be quite happy to accept the dreadful service and long delays - I can only assume they don't eat out much or have time to kill. This place doesn't deserve to survive - there is plenty of competition.

Take my advice eat elsewhere.

Visited Marsaxlokk on a busy sunny day in low season when market stalls were on the quayside. Walked up and down the many places serving food at the water's edge but chose Carrubia because of good price set menu - 2 course plus glass of wine €7.50. Managed to get a table on the quayside in the sun. My friend chose whole fish fried while I chose the prawns. Both arrived with large portion of chips and small salad. Fresh fish was good and my three giant prawns unfortunately had been fried, not grilled so were slippery to deal with and were overcooked but so fresh they tasted sweet and nutty. Good local white wine. Service was chaotic but friendly. There is plenty of choice on the menu but we settled for the cheapie! For the price and the views over the harbour, this place cannot be beaten but if you're looking for a special meal then this may not be for you.
