“Good all round average hotel”

We had the great good fortune to arrive in Xaghra on a Sunday afternoon in early September having taken a taxi from the port (a 13 euro trip). Our room (number 63) was tucked into a corner of a two storey section of the courtyard which benefited from being at the end of the terrace. The room was simple and functional. It had a small refrigerator and a television with dozens of channels. The bathroom showed the wear and tear a little more than the rest of the room with one of those very annoying fixed showerheads and plastic curtains which assists the water to spill all over the floor. No more than a minor irritation. The airconditioning unit - absolutely necessary - was a tad elderly but with the use of the ceiling fan kept us nicely cool - even if it was a little noisy. The first night we strolled into the town square to find preparations for the "Festa" in full swing. The Festa ran for five nights and we would seriously recommend throwing yourself into the event. We hired a car for I time in Gozo and this is really a must. The hotel breakfast and a couple of poolside lunches were the extent of our catering experiences in the Cornucopia and all were satisfactory. The gardens are attractive and quiet and both pools are just the right size for such a quiet little hotel.

Stayed in September 2011. Were upgraded to a bungalow when our tour operator made a mistake. Was fanstatic. Manager and frontdesk were very helpful. Only thing I could say as a negative is that the food is just ok.

We've just returned from a week staying in Bungalow 6 at the Cornucopia. We prefer to self cater and this is one of the best ever places we've stayed at as you have all the convenience of the hotel (helpful and charming recetpion staff, internet access, restaurant, bar, daily maid service, and large swimming pools) but with more privacy and space, enabling us to do things in your own time and own way.

The Bungalows are just across the street from the hotel and have fabulous views across the valley towards the sea. It was surprisingly quiet - we felt beautifully cut of from the world! Our bungalow was big with two good size bedrooms, two bathrooms and a huge living room/kitchen. The terrace is spacious and the view breathtaking (see pictures). Each of the two groups of bungalows has use of a small pool on its own terrace so you don't have to use the main pools in the hotel. This meant it was very peaceful and relaxing - all the time. The kitchen was pretty well equiped though our cooking didn't amount to much. My only quibble on facilities would be the bed-linen which I think was a bit thin and bobbly.

Xaghra is a great village and we found everything we needed to be able to self cater easily. We'd recommend local sausages from either of the town square butchers and the olives from St Joseph'sminimarket. We tried lots of Gozo wine which is probably better than the beer.

We didn't hire a car and disagree with other reviewers who say its essential to have a car. It was about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop and we managed to get around the island pretty well on foot and by bus and with the occasional taxi. The walk to the beach (either Marsalforn or Ramla) was about 40 minutes.

We only ate in the hotel restaurant once and in Oleander in the town square once. Both were good although I think the hotel restaurant lacks a bit of atmosphere.

We think it would be hard to fnd anywhere better to stay on Gozo and we will certainly return.

My partner and I and our 6 year old daughter spent the first 2 weeks in August at the Cornucopia Hotel. Firstly I would like to say that Bryan the Manager is excellent, he makes the hotel with his enthusiasm and his willingness to help at all times. The hotel is lovely, it's small and the 2 pools are quite small but it's enough. The kids seem to stick to the top pool and adults in the lower one. There's just enough sun beds, could always find one! You can have a fresh pool towel every day. The rooms are nice, possibly a little faded but for me that's part of the charm. Didn't eat there at night but had a couple of delicious lunches. Breakfasts were adequate, not enough variety and fruit is limited to melon only. Lots of excellent restaurants you can walk to in the square, particularly liked the Sea Breeze and the Oleandar, but all lovely. A car is pretty much a must as you definitely couldn't walk to the beach. There are buses but I didn't try them and a taxi to Ramla is probably around £20 return. I was a little worried about my daughter being an only child not finding other children her age but there were lots and being a small hotel it was even easier to make friends. Entertainment is twice a week and good fun. Friday nights great for dancing. Yes we would come back and yes it's value for money.

According to my husband, who is Maltese, the rabbit at the Cornucopia Hotel is the very best on the island! The taste of this traditional dish is incredible and just falls off the bone. Check out the chocolate moose too! The Friday night BBQ by the pool side is a lovely opportunity to try out the food at this hotel even if you're staying somewhere else. Good value for money in a lovely setting with a band playing in the background.

After we spent 1 week in the Phoenicia Hotel (Valetta) we stayed the second week on Gozo and the difference is very clear. Nevertheless the hotel is correct and the staff is very friendly. There is a little minus for a humid bathroom, horrible juice for breakfast and a long walk to the town center & bus station, but the positive things are the two nice pools, sufficient place around the pools, good service at any time of the day, the snack menu and a gorgeous red wine with the dinner. The hotel is recommended for families with kids and people who don't need big luxury to spend a good time.

wonderful stay ,our room had air conditioning, telephone ,fridge.cleaned daily. All the staff
were very polite and helpful, especially Brian the Manager .
A varied menu ,buffet breakfast. There are some very good restaurants in Xaghra Square.
You will need a car to get about as the Hotel is a little out of the way

Room Tip: Our room was by the pool it can get a little noisy if there is a wedding or BBQ
