The farmhouse is lavish and spacious. We were only two people and lived in the upper floor. The room on the kitchen level is a bit damp. Its very charming with the old polished staircase. We had a fab time sitting outside and having BBQ. The pool was a bit too cold end of october as the sun isnt warming it up anymore. The sea is warmer at that time, so it wasnt disappointing at all. The only thing we missed was the roof where a fspiral staircase leads to but its locked and the agency doesnt provide a key. Its located in a quiet area of Xaghra but you can walk easy to the main square. We love the place.
Gawhra is tucked away in a quiet corner of the friendly village of Xaghra, but is still only a five minute walk from the main square where there are a number of good restaurants and cafes and the beautiful church of Our Lady Of Victory.
Photographs can't really do justice to the very pleasant sun terrace and pool; they are both bigger than they look in any pictures. The pool is in the sunlight for most of the day and was really appreciated as the temperature was above 30 degrees throughout our stay.
Internally the villa has three bedrooms; a double and a twin on the first floor and a second twin off the kitchen on the ground floor, each with its own bathroom. The double bedroom is a very good size, the two twins a little smaller but still comfortable. The bedrooms have air conditioning but we never used it, we found that opening the windows and using the ceiling fans gave better ventilation. There is a very attractive internal balcony and seating area on the second floor.
The downstairs open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area is more compact. As a group of three adults we found it pleasant and cosy but wondered if it would suit larger parties. Although there is seating for six around the dining table, there is only one sofa and one armchair seating four people maximum. So six people cannot watch television or dvd's together.
The kitchen is a good size with an electric fan oven and a gas hob and is reasonably well-equipped. The pans and casseroles provided are sized for parties of six, so it can be a little difficult sometime to cook for a smaller number. (And there were no oven gloves!)
We really enjoyed our stay in the villa and would thoroughly recommend it to others. We have some constructive criticism that we think would make the villa even better for future holidaymakers. The information folder needs to be kept up to date and relevant to the particular property. We had the wrong instructions for some of the items in the property. Also the instructions for changing the calor gas bottles weren't very clear so when our bottle ran out on the penultimate evening we just left it; an automatic changeover valve would be better. Three different coloured bags are needed to comply with the island's recycling policy, but only one black bag was left in the property. The different coloured bags are only sold in packs of ten in the local supermarket so holidaymakers who are there for only a week or a fortnight are not going to buy them. Leaving a supply in the property would be a good idea.
These are only minor criticisms. Gawhra is cosy and welcoming, the pool is lovely and the beds are very comfortable, I'd definitely go back there!
Nice house, at the edge of the village of Xhagra, still close to the village square with supermarket, bus stops, ... If you travel with public transport, this house is very suitable.
Swimming pool was large enough (1-2m deep) and was really appreciated in the hot summer weather.
We had a nice stay in this holiday home at Gozo!
First visit to Gozo and we all loved it. The Farmhouse is amazing and in a great location. We will be back.
