We had a good time at Ta' Rikardu with their traditional plate which is more than sufficient for 2. The products are very good and we also recommend the ravioli!
Very good price.

On several occasions I have had a platter of Maltese delicacies at this quaint smallish restaurant in the Gozo Citadel. I remember having an enormous platter for two consisting of several types of good quality Gozitan cheeselets, pickled onions, different types of olives, Maltese sausages, fresh tomatoes, beans, onions capers, bigilla, bread and water crackers. This must have been some five or six years ago.

Recently we returned with relatives visiting from abroad. Although the ground floor dining area was completely empty, we were asked to take a seat upstairs, in a hideous room which looked like a canteen with tables arranged one next to the other in rows....yes I mean each table touching the next. Nothing quaint or romantic in the setting at all. My husband and I ordered a platter, luckily our guests ordered ravioli. The platter was a disaster and consisted of an equal quantity of sliced raw onion and tomatoes which made up two thirds of the platter. The remaining third was made up of a few olives, a handful of capers and about two cheeselts....cut up into tiny pieces. It was hardly enough for one let alone for two. Our guests ravioli looked more like boiled pastizzi than ravioli, however they said they were good. I don't know if they said this out of politeness.
So the atmosphere was really cold, the service was slow as it took about 45 minutes for the food to be served, and the downstairs toilets are better not to be described.
It is a real pity that what was a gem of a place has become such a tourist trap.... surely I shall never set foot in there again. Pity! I had very fond memories of this place....

What an experience. A family run restaraunt where nothing is to much trouble even when there was a tour group of thirty people of five different nationalities.
The upstairs bathroom is actually in a bedroom so you feel like family and the owners make you so welcome.
We found the soup and cheese platter for two was quite sufficient for our eating needs.

Went for lunch on a Sunday after passing the place the day before when we'd already eaten.

Local platter was superb. The wine we had was their own home-made label and we bought another bottle to take with us. Didn't go upstairs but the general buzz suggested all up there were enjoying themselves. Not expensive despite the location.

Really good fresh, local food and wine, at a very decent price despite prime location. Highly recommended.
