Fabulous couple of nights. The hotel is lovely and the owners and staff go out of their way to make your stay relaxing and perfect. My dog escaped from the hotel and the staff could not have done more to get him back which resulted in a successful outcome after a night of adventure. The food is delicious, the bedrooms really comfortable and the ambience makes you feel very special - loved it.

We loved our stay here. It was like being a guest in a National Trust property. Extremely friendly service. We shall never forget it and have no hesitation in recommending this stunning venue. We took the opportunity to visit Cothele House and Gardens - beautiful.

We stopped at this amazing little hotel on the way to Cornwall; I'd wanted a B+B but wife didn't like the ones she researched so we went way upmarket and I'm very glad we did.
A small rather beautiful country house hotel with Jacobean origins and original rooms and panelling; we stayed in what other places might describe as a suite and ate at their rather amazing restaurant.
We had the tasting menu in the "Purple carrot" dining area which has views and CCTV coverage of the kitchen; we were encouraged to talk to the chef and his team and he brought in and discussed each course himself.
The portions were not large but there were lots of courses; all exquisitely presented and we enjoyed the "flight" of wines chosen to complement the food. I was well fed by the end of the meal; my wife ran out of space.
This qualifies as one of the 5 best meals I can recall eating.

Room Tip: They even had a midweek offer which they gave us without being asked and a room upgrade.

This hotel has everything. A great local, beautiful bedrooms, log burning fires in the various lounges, and the most superb food and attentive staff. Both of us being vegetarians we usually get one or two options. We had five options each night and everyone we chose was superb. We have not enjoyed such wonderful meals for many years. I hope they can hold on to the chief for our next visit.

The house is lovely and packed full of history and interesting paintings etc
Staff are friendly and well trained
The bed was four poster and comfy
There are no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms but coffee or tea is brought to your room in the morning
The water provided in a stainless steel jug had a strange taste
We arrived for dinner three courses are £50 each and there were large breaks between courses we sat down at 8.15 we left at 10 40 but we were the last to enter the restaurant.Portions are on the smaller side for instance my partner had only three small slices for his venison tenderloin
I was fine but for men the courses may be insufficient to fill. The food was well cooked although perhaps my fish was a little over cooked. The cheese board is great but this has a £5 surcharge. It was great to see a soufflé on a menu .The wine was excellent and well priced although my partner choked at my £9.50 large gin and tonic :-) All in all this is a comfortable and romantic place to stay and we would stay again

We stayed for two nights in January and had a fantastic time. A lovely room, comfortable and not too hot. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and the food was excellent; a good choice of dishes all beautifully presented and delicious. Not great weather but the gardens were lovely and we the rain was a good excuse to sit by a log fire with coffee and a good book - all very relaxing.

A special trip for hubby's 60th birthday. We needed total relaxation and that's what it was.
We booked a superior room and enjoyed the view overlooking the front gardens. Room was lovely apart from creaking floors and doors. Decor a little outdated but I believe the family have just bought the hotel back and viewing some other rooms could see what could be achieved.
Food was fabulous. one criticism, portions were a little small- only for my husband!
We enjoyed a falconry experience as a special treat. - . all in all a welcome rest to our busy schedule. Would like to return - so will be watching for some special offers.
