“Excellent stay”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Lewtrenchard is a beautiful country hotel which lives up to its high standards. Accommodation is excellent with very comfortable beds. Being as the hotel doesn't have a large amount of rooms, it has a very personal feel. Food is of a very high standard. Overall an excellent experience and we look forwards to a return visit in the near future.

Room Tip: All rooms are differnet, worth looking at the website and looking at the various options.

We spent a single night at the hotel and were very impressed. The country location is perfect and peaceful. The gardens are very nice. The room was big and spotless. Exceptional service from the staff, very friendly. Great breakfast too.We had drinks in the gardens and enjoyed the sun on our way back. Very nice and relaxing. Keep it up folks.

I have visited Lewtrenchard three times over a period of about four years and have been impressed by the Manor House itself, and the grounds, on each occasion. I visited, as a guest of friends, earlier this month and have to say that this visit was the best yet ! The whole establishment seems to have raised its self a notch or two and none of the niggles that I had with the staff and the food on previous occasions raised their heads. The occasion was a function for eighteen persons to celebrate a birthday. From our arrival to our departure things went well and I could find no fault with the organisation, the food was excellent and the staff quietly efficient and obliging. All in all a most enjoyable experience and a return visit is most certainly in the pipeline. Highly recommended !

We stayed at Lewtrenchard in July for 3 nights. We had the most lovely stay and what a difference that personal touch makes. The Murray family clearly love the building and are truly great hosts and made the stay very memorable. We had the Purple Carrot experience one of the nights and it was great to watch the kitchen at work. Chef Matthew and his team produced some lovely and imaginative food.

We very much look forward to returning very soon.

A stay at the Lewtrenchard Manor is the perfect union of luxury with a genuine trip back to an era when standards really mattered: quite unlike the often artificial service that is driven by the relentless pursuit of internet or similar feedback ratings. I cannot fault this hotel. Actually it is more of a retreat than an hotel. The owners maintain the place to a scrupulously high standard, resisting the ravages of centuries' worth of wear and tear. The surroundings are peaceful and a good night's sleep is as good as guaranteed. The chef is a perfectionist. I had the pleasure of dining in one of Heston Blumenthal's restaurants last Christmas and the Lewtrenchard Chef(s) come a close second: the tomato consommé is divine! Breakfast provides a wide selection, is perfectly plentiful and prepared with every bit as much TLC as the dinner. My wife and I did not manage to try the Purple Carrot dining experience but I can think of no better reason to return to Lewtrenchard Manor to rectify that particular omission before very much longer. Simply Sublime!

We stayed at this incredible Manor House full of magnificent period antiquities and charm from Sunday to Wednesday. The hosts Sue and James Murray were so welcoming and friendly. Lewtrenchard Manor is such a fabulous Manor full of splendid antiques, superb oil paintings, mainly of the Manor's family over the centuries. The bedroom we stayed in was Nonington which was spendid. Very warm and well appointed. All this however, was surpassed by the absolutely incredibile Michelin style food prepared by their new and brilliant young chef, Matt Peryer.
The food was very special. On Monday we were treated to an 8 course tasting extravaganza, which I would personally compare with Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir, at a fraction of the cost.
This is certainly a chef to watch.
In my opinion, the best bedroom in the house is St. Gertrude, with Nonington a close second.
Which ever room you decide to stay in, you will be treated to a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: St. Gertrude or Nonington.

I have just returned from a lovely stay ( lovely old 4 poster bed ) and a Birthday dinner ,I had seen in the local press that a new chef had been appointed (having always enjoyed the food from the old chef thought it would be a hard act to follow )
We had a first class dinner thank you new chef first class and i have to say we all thought the breakfast was better.
If you haven't tried this lovely hotel you should ,but make time to relaxes a lovely cream tea walk in the grounds ,the other great thing is your mobile will not work ( very good wifi and you can always use Viber should you feel the need to contact the out side world )
In the evening we where guest for this birthday dinner the lovely thing was we had a private room and first class none pushy service and ended up in the bar in big sofa and a few drinks before bed.
The owners make you feel like you are the only guests there, nothing is to much trouble i will give you an example 3 couples and a single staying for the dinner when we headed for bed we where asked would we all like to sit together for breakfast ( 12.30 am !!! ) we said would be nice ,so before heading to bed the family stripped the function room put in a smaller table and so we had a lovely time with an hour and half breakfast
thank you see you again

Room Tip: try the four poster
