Super service. Food excellent. However, ambience a little stilted and formal for our taste. Room (nonnington) needs some tlc. Felt that £7 for a coffee and cold drinking chocolate delivered to our room ( as no facilities ), a bit rich... though sensed most of the clientele were.

Recently had our Wedding here, (we have been to the hotel as guests at another Wedding previously)
We were hugely disappointed in the service, food, and presentation.
It is a beautiful setting for a wedding, but many of our guests (who regularly eat in similar standard establishments), felt it was not what you would expect for the cost, and we felt the same.
There were mix-ups over arrangements, course choices, and the food was cold, this was absolutely not fine dining.
If it were down to food and service during the meal, we would rate this experience poorly, its only saving grace being the setting.
Thus far the attempts by the owners to appease the situation, have been poor, and excuses rife.
As for the accommodation, the smell of oil in the foyer was offensive, the owners admitted other people have made the same complaint but that they hadnt had anyone say the smell was also in the room and that they would have an engineer out to look at it. I was also told they kept the outside door open to the foyer (clearly to dissipate the smell)
We were a party of 63, and it appears this causes difficulties when you have a menu choice (even though the choices were made well in advance, and we were told at our first meeting it would not be a problem), which evidently it was.
We are not happy at all.

We have been visiting Lewtrenchard Manor since the early nineties and have always loved it. However when it passed into the hands of a large hotel chain we visited for lunch and found no reason to return.
Now it is back in the capable hands of the Murrey family and the beautiful old building has got it's heart back.
The food is exceptional, absolutely faultless, and whatever you do have the afternoon tea and biscuits. The homemade shortcake is unbelievable! The grounds are beautiful and there are lovely walks to be had.
The housekeeping is remarkable: though they make your bed while you are at breakfast even if you are leaving that day (in addition to the proper clean later) and they turn down your bed while you are at dinner, I have yet to spot a chambermaid. None of the old trolleys and piles of laundry in the corridors you find in much grander hotels: everything is done beautifully and unobtrusively.
Breakfast is a proper English breakfast, none of you continental rubbish! Fresh fruit, yoghurt with fresh fruit purees, cereals, juice, then a cooked breakfast of your choice and pastries to follow.
It is a haven of loveliness and they even turn the fountain off at night so nothing disturbs your rest.

Room Tip: All the room are lovely and very comfortable; I think we have stayed in pretty well every one!

We went for two nights and everything was perfect. The staff are so polite and are up from the crack of dawn to late at night to cater for all your needs with no fuss.

The food is amazing and the building is over 1000 years old and very impressive. The bedroom was very comfortable and nice views over the grounds.

The location is quite isolated which means it's an amazingly peaceful getaway.

Can't really think of anything else I would've wanted.

Lewtrenchard has been for quite a few years my favourite escape. The food, staff, rooms etc have always been excellent.recently the Murray family have returned to ownership and now the hotel is even better.the previous very fine chef john hooker has moved on to open his own establishment.his replacement matt is also a sensation.the latest combination of management and staff (not forgetting the wonderful housekeepers) is second to none.we will be revisiting again as soon as possible for hopefully another unforgettable experience.

Room Tip: There's not a bad one.

We stayed here for two nights and it was a wonderful hotel. We stayed in the hornsey room which was lovely with an incredibly comfortable bed. The service at the hotel was fantastic and having been to other five star hotels this hotel is on par with them. I am gluten intolerant and I was catered for very well. The food was very good as was the service in the resturant. Very reasonably priced wines as well. Overall this is an excellent hotel worth more than the three stars it is graded. Beautiful grounds and buildings- well worth the visit and I would go back

We arrived at this lovely 400 year old Manor House with the sun shining - The house and grounds are very impressive.

Check in was simple and the room was gorgeous - St Gertrude suite. If you are looking for modern and minimalist then this hotel is not for you, however if you are want to stay in a traditional, warm, friendly boutique hotel then you most certainly will not be disappointed

The room itself was large and welcoming - lots of dark wood paneling and antique furniture, a separate dressing area and all very clean. The bathroom was much smaller with no separate shower, only a corner bath with shower above. The bathroom has no natural light unlike the bedroom which has triple windows on each wall.

The only thing the room lacks is coffee and tea making facilities. Top end toiletries and robes are supplied.

They are very welcoming to dogs - we took two and there is no problem with them sitting in the public lounges or out in the grounds. As many hotels the only place they are not allowed is in the restaurant.

Now the restaurant - the food was amazing and competes on a level with top London restaurants. The menu choice is a little limited but we stayed and ate here for 2 nights and enjoyed both meals thoroughly. The quality and the flavors of the food really is fantastic.

If you are looking for a grown up retreat in Devon then go - you will not be disappointed!!
