We booked this hotel as we wanted to be near Stobo as we were going the next day. (Stayed 28th June), it was an offer of room only with Expedia. The scenery around Cardrona is magnificent, but when we arrived at our room it was in the basement with just grass to look at! I have stayed here before and received gorgeous rooms with spectacular views, but obviously I feel when you book deals you get the rooms they probably would use last. The room was large, comfortable etc and we did not eat here. When we left the room around 8.30am we walked to the lift and a chap was at the gym reception and did not even say "Morning" to us, then a lady came out of the shop and started talking to him about another member of staff, which I think is terrible, we heard all of the conversation while waiting for the lift. Not friendly in the least !

We stayed for 2 nights Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Hotel was very nice, in a scenic location. The rooms were spacious. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The food was very good, suggest you book for dinner in advance. The breakfast buffet offered lots of choice, with hot options being cooked to order. The Spa area is very pleasant and relaxing, but advance booking for treatments would be recommended.

Look forward to our next visit.

Here for a mini-break and forgot to check when half term was, so it was busy and a bit more boisterous than we had expected. Facilities are good (when less busy) but would advise anyone hoping for spa treatment to book before you arrive to save disappointment. Will go back in future (outside school holidays.)

My daughter and I plus well- behaved dog stayed at the Macdonald Cardrona over the Jubilee Weekend. We chose a 'feature room' with outside terrace which was excellent for coming and going with the dog.
Excellent food and service makes this somewhere that we will be returning to soon.
Couple of tips:
(1) Book a table for dinner early in the day. If the hotel is full, then you might not get a table until very late.
(2) The nearby Glentress Centre - biggest mountain-biking centre in UK - is excellent for walks also. Great views from the higher ground.

Room Tip: A 'feature room' with terrace is excellent if you are taking your dog.

Beautiful location. Reception, the lounge and bar area were empty of other guests when I arived at 6pm and indeed when i checked out, the reception staff were fine and my room large and comfortable. Room service was prompt and of average standard. The TV was very old and it took a while for the picture to settle down, (the remote batteries were failing), with limited channels.

The main issue was once I went to bed, the bed was hard but not terrible, what were terrible were the pillows. My main issue however was the two flashing red lights on the smoke detector above the bed which made it impossible to sleep on my back.

The hotel was a third more expensive than its nearby competitors - not worth it, based on my experience.

I attended a meeting at their conference centre the next day which was a much better experience.

Room Tip: Whilst not too busy I would ask for a room away from the A72

Have stayed at this hotel before and rate it. This however was not the best visit. Reception staff, other than Pippa were average and did not try hard to help. The restaurant on this occasion did not live up to its star billing. No-one seemed to be managing the restaurant and there were many waiters waiting on the table with no-one owning the service. Items ordered, missed; steaks not delivered to customer requirements; coffee served for 3 out of 4 people while eating pudding and forgot one coffee etc. Not impressed. Overall and generally the food was good and the hotel is of a high standard but this was not the best visit.

My husband & I recently spent the night here. I have stayed in a few Macdonald hotels & this has been the best so far!

Our room was lovely, big & clean with a view of the golf course.
We used the pool & gym facilities which were great.

We ate at the hotel, we had planned to into Peebles but the weather was horrendous! Dinner was yum & fairly priced. Lovely selection in the morning for breakfast.

Would stay again for sure!
