“Food makes the journey worthwhile.”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We have stayed at this hotel before but it was over 4 years ago so we hoped it would live up to our last experience .As it was our wedding anniversary and we also had an appointment in Edinburgh that morning we decided to try it again , we arrived at 1:45 and decided to have lunch in the bistro after being greeted by Mark ( manager?) we were seated and after one look at the menu the sandwiches we were going to order turned in to fish and chips , they were very good, but the guy serving us had a little difficulty understanding our order, his English was a bit poor.
The room we stayed in was smaller than our previous one but very nice ( a few small stains on the carpet ) but comfortable and nicely decorated, with a welcome note personally addressed to us , which was a nice touch.
Dinner was served in the restaurant which is beautiful , we were served by a very attentive lady from Bulgaria and she just delighted us with her lovely manner, the food was wonderful and made the trip worthwhile , breakfast again the food saved the day , as we had been seated for some time before staff had discovered us!
Over all we gave the hotel a high rating but did have a feeling of disappointment , on our special day the hotel made no effort to make it special , perhaps my expectations were to high.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room before you bring your luggage in.

Visiting for the first time with friends ( couples ) on motorbikes we arrived to find the Horseshoe Inn very welcoming, rooms being set out in an annexe ours was spotless and well furnished as were the others.
The bed warmer a nice surprise. Food in the Bistro was excellent although the choice limited possibly as it was Bank holiday. Breakfast very good , staff excellent if not possibly over attentive for some. Would'nt hesitate in recommending the hotel

After staying at Cringletie House which was lovely, we stayed a night at The Horseshoe Inn to extend our time in the Peebles area. We really weren't quite sure what to expect, especially when contrating two different sorts of establishment. The accomodation at The Horseshoe Inn is very pleasant, and to a high standard, but a converted school house at the back of an Inn is always going to struggle against a rural retreat of some grandeur.

However, when it comes to food, The Horseshoe Inn has more to offer. It has two dining areas, the Bistro or the Restaurant. We sampled the Restaurant, and it was sublime. Some of the best food we have had. Now, Cringletie House was excellent, don't get me wrong, but The Horseshoe Inn just takes it to another level, and the food was quite outstanding.

This was our first time staying overnight but our third time eating at the Horseshoe although the first time in the Bistro. The room was extremely comfortable and the meal in the Bistro was excellent. The staff were all very attentive and Marcus was the perfect breakfast host. We will return.

Weve just returned home from the beautiful Scottish boarders where we were attending a wedding locally. We spent 1 night at stobo castle first, and I was worried about leaving the lovely 5 star surroundings, I need not have worried. The horseshoe inn is beautiful, our room had everything we could have needed plus a little more. the homemade ginger bread was a lovely touch and the Molton brown toiletries lush. The resturant, lounge and cloakroom is beautiful in the evening with all the candles glowing. It was the staff and the quality of the food however that made our stay the fantastic experience it was. On the Friday night I sampled their incredible tasting menu which is one of, if not the best meals I've ever eaten. The service was speedy, non intrusive but no one was ever out of site if you needed anything. The breakfast here is a completely different class to anywhere I've had breakfast before!! Freshly squeezed orange juice, proper crusty bakers loaf, lovely little pots of jam, honey and marmalade and it was the menu that was so extentsive and different! I opted for the smoked haddock both mornings and wish I could have it again today, sautéed potatoes, spinach, poached egg topped with a mustard cream, delicious. There was also a range of starters including fresh fruit, yoghurt and berries, muesli and porridge but all served up beautiful with little extras. The other point I would mention is that it was incredible value for money. Our only little niggle, and it IS little, is that when you arrive in the car park its not obvious at all where you are meant to go to check in, especially if you arrive through peebles like we did. Maybe a sign pointing to the reception would be an idea?! (seriously thats my only thing and im HARD to please!) We will definitely return here again and I can't wait till we do! Thank you to everyone at the horseshoe inn for making our weekend wonderful when all we expected was a bunk for the night!!

We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal & evening at this quaint and delightful restaurant with rooms. The establishment came recommended by friends. We were not disappointed with the food, service or wine list. We ate in the bistro, as the fine dining restaurant was closed on a Monday evening. Most tables were in use, which, we believe to be a positive sign for the start of the week. We'd heard that the establishment had recently changed hands. Well, not to worry. The food & cooking on offer was to an excellent standard. The service was helpful, polite and courteous. The bistro could be doing with some light background music though to enhance the ambience. We asked to view the rooms and were shown them with no problem. The rooms are small, beautifully appointed and cosy. The package on offer for dining and overnight stay are exceptionally great value for the standard on display. We hope to return and wish the new owners every success with their plans for this highly recommended establishment.

Room Tip: Select the slightly more expensive premium room. It's only about £10 more per night but well wor...

We had not been to the Horseshoe Inn for about 20 years (we had been out of the country), but booked to go again for a special evening tasting examples of food to be featured in the Autumn menu.

The evening consisted of samples of about 20 dishes (some of which we tried several times), plus cooking demos, talks by suppliers and wine tasting.

All the food items were delicious. The talks and demos were informative, but might have benefited from the speakers being provided with throat mikes. Because of the need to circulate between different rooms, we spent a lot of time on our feet - which was not great.

Although we only live in Edinburgh (30 minutes drive away) it seemed prudent to stay overnight in one of the rooms in the converted school house. We found the beds to be very comfortable.

Breakfast next morning (Sunday) was excellent and provided especially early for us as we had to get back to Edinburgh for a 10.15 lecture at the Book Festival.

The total price for the evening was £150 for two persons, being £100 for the accommodation and £50 for the food. Very good value.

Staff were very accommodating and provided good service
