They managed to take the freshest fish imaginable and cook it to death. No-one in the entire evening we were there. There are better choices within 20 km.

The fish is very good. You have to have a car to get there.

Bad food, bugs wandering around the table, bad service. Dog walking around under the tables. Salad and breads were on the table for hours before guests arriving.

A trip around Sao Miguel would not be complete without a trip to Lagoa, and Borda d'Agua is a good place to eat if you are there. Lagoa is a fishing village, with boats pulled up on shore in the evening, next to the restaurant. The fish is amazingly fresh. The atmosphere is tables and chairs with posters of fish on the walls and jeans and t-shirts the dress, casual and informal.

I had shrimp to start, pan fried in the shell in a garlic butter, with bread and hot sauce on the side. Very tasty. Then we had Alphonsime and Boca Negra for the fish. Both fish were gutted, split down the middle along the spine and grilled. Both were very good, the alponsime being more moist. We had a bottle of Terra de Lavas white with the meal, which was very good.

Altogether the meal was very good and the service was fast without being overwhelming. The locals frquent this restaurant, which always speaks volumes to me. I would go back, and I would recommend trying it if you are on Sao Miguel. You will not be dissapointed unless you are looking for a suit and tie restaurant.
