This is our 2nd time here in the beautiful Hinterland area of Surfers Paradise and we love this place. This resort is not a 4 star but the grounds, the wildlife, the staff, location and serenity are the reason we come back. All the staff are friendly, helpful, efficient and able to answer any questions.
The cabin blocks are scattered over the grounds and are basic, once storey dwellings. You park your car at the end of each block and you don't have far to walk to your cabin and there are baggage trolleys to assist carrying your luggage. The cabins house the usual furniture and have all the necessary items and utensils. They are comfortable enough and there are chairs outside your loungeroom to watch the wildlife etc. There are no laundry facilities inside the cabins but are situated in the middle of each long block & I advise to stay while you are washing to ensure better courtesy and efficiency for each guest.
The pool is a good walk but worthwhile. You can use the paddle boats on the lake but wouldn't swim in it until the algae is under control. You aren't supposed to feed the ducks etc. near your cabins but a lot do.There are designated areas to do this and you can buy feed from reception. We were woken to noise one morning to find hot air balloons being filled & customers being lifted away...what an awesome sight with the sun rising behind them!
The Hinze Dam is nearby and worth a look and a walk. You can pay to go horse riding, which is on the grounds. The restaurant staff are wonderful and friendly but you are limited with time and days to buy your meals. There is a large games room that can keep you occupied for some time that has an open log fire to keep you warm during the winter.
It's only a 20min drive to the Theme parks and 10mins to the Gold Coast main area. The markets are interesting and you can get great breakfasts there. We love the hinterland area for the rain forest walks. Once again, thank you Cedar Lakes for the memories, the tranquillity and the fresh air.

We visited Cedar Lake in October 2013. We had a 2 bedroom (sleeps 6) unit which had everything we needed. The restaurant offered great meals and we loved the pan cake breakfast on the Thursday of our week's stay. The reception staff is friendly and accommodated my requests for information with a smile. We have family in Brisbane who stayed with us on the first weekend we were there and we used the barbecue facilities near our unit. These were very clean and well lit. We even had a little visit from a friendly wallebie! There are designated spots where you can feed the ducks, geese and birds. You can buy food at reception. There are lots of activities to keep busy, especially the kids. The surrounding area has lots to offer. It is a fantastic place to break away from the normal stresses of life but not too far from the hubbub of Gold Coast with its lovely beaches. Evenings are quiet with the night time noises keep you company. During October the weather is quite balmy which we loved as it was still quite cold were we live. Thanks Cedar Lade for our lovely stay!

Although the cabins are a little dated, they come complete with everything, including oven mitts to retrieve food from the oven which makes life easier! There were also all kinds of dishes for cooking/serving to use in the kitchen to cater or all occasions. I didn't need to bring anything extra! The towels were changed mid week which was great! Having the car parked so close to the Unit was also great.
We stayed in the Lake Block which was excellent to wake up to. The sun on the lake and the birds so close was magical. There are so many type of animals living there, free to roam - turtles, birds, ducks etc that it is remarkable to see.
My only criticism of the place was lack of detailed info for a 1st time visitor, such as the newspaper doesn't arrive at the resort till around 9am and they don't deliver it to your unit and that no food is available until 5pm and only 5 nights per week.
The weed on the lake (not the waterlily) is bad but steps are being taken to eradicate it.
On listening to the Managers talk, I learnt that the resort was originally built to house workers on the Hinze Dam built in 1976 in what is now the Stable Block. I am interested to know when the rest of the buildings were built and when it became time share. Originally there was grass on the concrete roof of the Units and it was mown regularly. Quite a feat I think. Any history on this place would be welcome. Thanks
Jan & Graeme

Room Tip: The lake block is the closest to the Lake and probably the main complex.

our second stay here at cedar lake resort in the gold coast hinterland. easy access to the theme parks. situated on its own lake in bush surroundings - paddle boats, pool, tennis, table tennis, mini golf, 9 hole chip and putt golf course on site, games room, etc. Staying a week - but most of this will be at the theme parks - would love to hae spread this over 2 weeks and to have taken more advantage of the facilities here.

We arrived for a week in March, from the pictures it really looks better than it really is, on our arrival to the resort it appeared, peaceful and tranquil, lovely surroundings with mountains all around, the entrance is nice going up to the reception, once you get inside, its really old, and does need renovations all over that goes for the villas too, although we found the villas really clean with everything you need for a self contained villa. Its great for families with lots of things to do for the kids. While there we visited The Hinze Dam which was amazing we really enjoyed it , The Cafe was really nice, you can walk along the Dam with amazing views, it really is lovely.

My immediate and extended family, plus family friends, have stayed at Cedar Lake each year for over 20 years. It is the perfect place for families.

We go for walks each day around the grounds and up to Hinze Dam (which has a cafe serving great coffee) and the kids feed the ducks, go swimming, play pool and air hockey, ride bikes and horses, the list goes on. We catch up with the extended group for an afternoon tea or quiet drink - a lovely place to socialise without feeling we are in each others' pockets.

The self-contained units are simple but perfect for what we need. A fully equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture, foxtel for wet or lazy afternoons, fans in bedrooms, air con in the living space.

Cedar Lake has lost none of its charm. We love it.

Check in very late close to midnight & easy to find room keys in their drop box outside the reception. Only set back was the road to the resort was dark as its really out of town. The rooms & set up is exactly like what they advertise. Parking going up the hill was quite dark but other than that its was good. There were 5 of us hence my son slept on the sofa bed with air con :) Rooms were provided with ceiling fans only but its ok because it was not summer. It be great if spray insecticide was provided as there were mosquitoes & saw a cockroach in the bathroom. We had morning walks & visited Hinze Dam. We cooked breakfast daily as we only come back late night. Managed to bake cookies for one night when we came back around 8ish pm. Place a bit run down & we didn't managed to use any of the facilities they provided as we are out daily.

Room Tip: Try to get unit by golf course as its closer to main road, reception, pool etc.
