“Good Value”

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times. It is not as flash as some of the other Casio hotels but it is a lot cheaper and friendlier. The first time we stayed here was 4 years ago and the breakfast was a joke. They
certainly have gone up a gear with the food. There is a new extension being built on the hotel but we were not aware of any building works when we were there. But worth checking

It seems many guests have been going to this hotel for the last 10 years and seem to enjoy sitting round the pool in the sun and doing little else. If that is what you want then it is fine.
Car hire is readily available but driving in Cyprus is ok but not relaxing. While we were there an English woman had a serious accident. We did have a car for a few days and enjoyed visiting the sights, but there were lots of complaints about the poor standard of hire cars available in the area . There are trips available if you don't want to drive though (approximately £25-£30 per person).
Food was excellent. Plenty of choice for breakfast and evening meal. But the cats were everywhere - so if you don't like cats don't go. We ate out some nights which was a change but the evening meal in the hotel was fine. Huge choice of starters (salads, cheese, olive hot and cold dishes) then a main course (sometimes 2 choices) served by a waiter . If you want choice 2 you need to tell them by midday and get a voucher otherwise you can't have it. No-one told us about this until we were half way through the holiday.
It did remind us of Faulty Towers some days and we had a real laugh as depending on the mood of the waiter depended on how quick you got served and whether they remembered to give you a knife and fork. Waiting for a drink was a waste of time so we just got ours from the bar. However, would not say it was 4 star service, rather hit and miss. But it was lovely to sit outside on the terrace and eat the meal and not be bothered by insects.

Like others, we were told we had a "free upgrade" to a hotel room in the main hotel even though a bungalow had been booked. We were not happy about this as the room was poky and noisy so next day got moved to a lovely bungalow across the road in the small complex. The rooms were spotless and cleaned daily and well equipped as was the pool and surrounding area. It was nice in the evening to go to the small bar in the complex and have a few drink before walking a few yards to our accommodation. Then getting up in the morning and open the door directly onto the pool area.
We managed to play "table tennis" twice but then the one single ball went missing and that was it - we were promised that more would be brought in but never were. So there is not much to do during the day.
The hotel is away from main Kyrenia - but is walkable (30-40 mins) but is rather warm in the heat of the sun. There is a bus but that does not leave until 10.30 am and we were usually down in Kyrenia well before then. We went a few walks in the area (again very warm) and hiking in the mountains which was lovely but not much else to do and not somewhere where you can walk along the front.

Likes, Cleaning staff and waiting staff and reception staff in fact all staff we came into contact with were very pleasant. Breakfast always well stocked and maintained. Pool and gardens were well maintained and kept clean by the army of workers.

Disliked. Booked a bungalow, but when we arrived at midnight we were told we had been upgraded to hotel room, okay you would think so went to our room 509, room is okay a bit dated but clean so of to bed. This room is above the entrance to the kitchen and at about 7.00am food is getting prep-aired this room becomes noisy and the smell from frying food makes its way into the room via any open windows of the common vent in the toilet wall and you have the same again later in the afternoon with evening meals. Inquired why I had not been given the accommodation we had booked and was shown one of the bungalows over the main road but not one of the ones around the pool people like but away from this area down some stairs, seems to be only four not renovated these are horrible and should not even be offered to anyone for use. I have saw comments on these on feedback before. So we given the choice decided cooking and noise were the better option. When I asked about all these nice modern well presented bungalows we were told these are called the residencies and where an upgrade from what we booked, I had looked on the company site we had booked and they made no distinction all were called bungalows or hotel rooms and both were the same price, the British girl gave a lame excuse. No wifi in room only in reception area or at outside bar.
Although my dislike seems long I actually did enjoy this hotel seems from watching people arrive many are regulars and because of this I think hotel tries to accommodate their requests for specific rooms and random travelers get shuffled about to allow this. Tip to hotel don't try and sell guests a hotel room is an upgrade where it clearly is not and get the dumps of room over the road upgraded quickly.
NOW THE CATS, cats like nice soft places to use as toilets, I saw one at breakfast using a large pot plant in the dining room as a toilet, not nice and not hygienic. I also saw one using the grass area behind the hotel, then shortly after a mother appeared with her small child to play and roll around one again not good. These same cats appear to have a free run around outside and inside of hotel. This will attract the wrath of cat lovers I am sure but they mess around in skips one minute then in a restaurant next doing what cats do. They spread some particularly horrible diseases via their by urine and solids coli being one not good for a hotel!!!! .

Room Tip: stay away from unrenovated bungalows and room 509 for cooking smell and noise.

We stayed here in July 2013. Even before arrival, Stephanie was most helpful in helping us change our accommodation from the one we had booked with the tour operator as we had an extra guest coming with us. We stayed over the road, in what was called a villa, but it was more a 1 floor 2 bedroom bungalow. The pool, which was delightfully warm, was less than 5m away! We enjoyed our 11pm swims most evenings! Breakfast was basic and repetitive, but more than adequate. Over on the bungalow side, it was lovely and quiet, and our 11 month year old entertaining everyone in the pool. We didn't actually eat in the hotel other than breakfast, so cannot comment on lunch or evening meals. All the staff were friendly and helpful if needed. Already planning for 2014, but will be staying for 2 weeks next time round!

Where to start, this was my first visit to Cyprus and we booked our stay at the Altinkaya HB, we stayed in the residential bungalows across the road from the hotel. The bungalows were lovely, clean and well equipped, the pool clean and safe. The food was fantastic so much choice to choose from and the service excellent from the staff, if the children didnt like what was on the menu you could ask at reception for an alternative. A daily bus service was available to take you to the beach or Kyrenia town. We hired a car and got out seeing some of the sites which are easily accesible. Le Mar supermarket was great value to buy things for the bungalow. Hotel is well laid out and caters for everyone, staff excellent, overall excellent establishment.

Room Tip: would definetly recommend the bungalows in the residential part for quiet and peaceful time.

We have stayed at Altinkaya many times but this was the first time we have stayed in one of the single-storey bungalows by the hotel (No.302). We chose this as my husband is now partially disabled and we needed accommodation all on one level with a walk-in shower. We absolutely loved this little bungalow with its terrace looking out over the pool. It had a separate sitting room and bedroom and a small bathroom off from the bedroom. As always, the staff at Altinkaya are a great asset to the hotel and are extremely friendly, always having time for a chat, but at the same time carrying out their duties with great efficiency. We had a couple of minor problems in the bungalow but they were put right immediately. It proves the point that this is a very popular resort by the amount of people who return year after year and it was lovely to meet up with old friends. The new bar area is great and was very popular. The new restaurant building blends in with the hotel beautifully and we are looking forward to seeing it finished next year. We arrived home yesterday evening after experiencing very hot weather and now it is back to winter woollies - oh well, always next year to look forward to!

Room Tip: Single-storey bungalow ideal for those with limited mobility.
