This was a place I wanted to stay for a long time. And we were not disappointed. The hotel is in the most perfect setting for a relaxing weekend, next to the historic Altenberg cathedral, away from any noise and hectic. The rooms are big, our room had a great setting with a big bathroom and a big double bed. Looking outwards to the creek, the only noise we heard was the running water. The hotel accepts small dogs against a surcharge.

Additional the restaurant has a great select of traditional German local food. With very polite service and local sourced beer.

Location wise - it is a bit off the beaten track - but that is exactly why we came. We will be coming again.

Room tip: For quiet rooms, ask for a room to the back, in the summer the location is a well known day-trip location.

Romantic night during a travel by car from Paris. Hotel is not far from the highway in a natural environment. Breakfast included in the price was great. Restaurant in the hotel is just fine (not amazing and rather expensive). Room is clean and spacious. Free wifi was OK.

I used this hotel many times since 20 years of business trip, it is not too far from main highway in the vicinity of Koeln and Leverkusen , but it offer a completely relaxing stay with old style and fresh air , the renovated rooms offer modern and comfortable furnishes . the restaurant is fine and breakfast is rich in offers.

Room tip: I would prefer the back side , away from church bells in the morning,,,

A lovely hotel surrounded by beauty, a wonderful Cathedral stands just steps away from the hotel, the glorious bells wake you up in the morning (great for early risers, not so great if you appreciate a lie in), the architecture is beautiful and the grounds sparse. The hotel has a lovely bath and the most comfortable beds, and the breakfast is small and limited, but sufficient. The liquid soap and cream provided smell delicious and left my skin feeling divine.
The bad points.... I was welcomed by dusty cobwebs in the bathroom, there are no tea and coffee making facilities and what I did not realise is that requesting an urn of hot water will set you back £1.50 each time (for water!!). The restaurant is majorly overpriced, it is incredibly expensive. Most mains breach the 25 euro mark, and a bowl of soup will set you back by 12.50 euros. There is no safe in the bedroom, no iron, and the keys are old school so and you have to keep turning them in the lock a few times to sufficiently lock the door. The staff are friendly but not really proactive and the hotel is miles away from any shops or convenience stores. The wifi is provided but is terrible, and you are only able to access it from one device. It will not allow you to hook up both your laptop and phone, so you either have to choose or keep alternating. Very inconvenient.

Room tip: The guest house is nice and quiet but you may have a small trek in the rain to get breakfast.

Sehr geehrter Gast,

Tucked away in a forested valley, half an hour out of Cologne is this quietly romantic inn. A literal stone's throw from a restored but little-used 12th century cathedral (well ex-cathedral, the bishop's gone). We stayed in the guest house, stone exterior, 52 inch thick walls, a private ground-floor lounge for the guesthouse guests which we never used as our corner room had a huge living area itself. Excellent restaurant. The setting can't be beat for a romantic 1 or 2 night's getaway from hurried travel or the fast pace of Cologne.
