A church with a very distinctive architecture on top of a hill in Stykkisholmur. The interior is very sober like all other churches in Iceland but your attention is immediately drawn to the beautiful painting of a floating Madonna and Child behind the altar. Also great views of the coast and surroundings from the church’s location. Have a stop here if you are in the neighbourhood.

We were very lucky to be able to make pictures of this stunning architectonic building. The views to the sea and the hills are great

We were in Stykkisholmur visiting the Volcano Museum (interesting) and drove past this magnificent structure - I just had to check it out! It was noon; there weren't any signs indicating open hours but the doors were unlocked and there were some other people looking around so we went in. We were able to wander freely through the "public" areas and we stayed about 20 minutes. The interior is just as striking - if not more so - than the exterior. I loved it! There is an impressive organ, and the artwork is lovely. I'm sure it is really beautiful at night with all the hanging light bulbs illuminating the space like little stars. There was no fee to enter and I did not see a donation box (or any staff to ask). If you are in the town, do take a few minutes to check out this lovely place.

If you are visiting the village, have a walk and visit it.
We were lucky to get there on a "sunny" sunset.
Enjoy!

Interesting modernly designed church. It is worth a visit if you are in the area. I personally prefer the more traditional churches, but it is nice to read about the architecture and how the roof was designed to look like a whale’s tale. The inside is very pretty, but not much to see. I liked their hanging lightbulbs.
