This is a guesthouse hotel with a friendly owner and staff but no restaurant. The rooms, all with bathroom, are simple but good (no TV). The breakfast was ample, the usual Icelandic buffet. Stykkishólmur is a small town and everything is an easy walk from the hotel; especially attractive is the harbor area with old buildings (there is a brochure available at the hotel showing all interesting buildings). The new church is also worth investigating. Most people come here to get the ferry across Breiðafjörður and a good way of spending the morning before the afternoon ferry is the two hour trip around the islands (Seatours, office at the harbor where you also buy ferry tickets). On this trip, we saw lots of puffins and two white-tailed eagles, among others. There are two good restaurants in the town. We ate at Fimm Fiskar, right next to the hotel (Excellent seafood and good value). Narfeyrarstofa was also recommended by the hotel. It is just down the street opposite Fimm Fiskar.

This is an average 3 star hotel.
Large, clean, basic rooms with comfortable beds
needs better curtains for the early morning light
small bath
simple but adequate breakfast
no tv in rooms
free wifi in lobby - maybe some rooms, but not ours
very friendly, helpful staff

I planned to stay for one night but extended for a second night. I took a double room as the singles are very small. I paid extra for a great room on the top floor that had the best bed and was close to a chill out area with great views of the town.
The owner and her daughter are so lovely and very accomodating. Breakfast was fine and fresh. The also replenish frequently.
You can not get more central and I was given good recommendations for vegetarian food and places to explore.
I think this is the best place to stay in this town.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the place was extremely clean and the breakfast was good. The only problem was the lack of appropriate curtains for the midnight sun.

The location is great, it is just beside the only two (soon to be three) restaurant in town.

If you want to see puffins, do not bother with the nature cruise as you will only see a few puffins far away from the boat. Take the ferry and cross to the Western Fjords and drive down the coast to Breidavik, you will see thousands of puffins less than a meter away from you.

If you decide to stay in a hotel in Stykkisholmur this will be it. We were there in Sept and it was full, so booking is reccommended. Plain building with fair sized clean rooms and the standard breakfast, with parking directly in front. Centrally placed, a few mins walk to the harbour, and very near the two restaurants. Good, no fuss, touring stopover, with fair prices.

This hotel was typical for Iceland in that it offers a basic place to sleep at night for a relatively high price. The location in Stykkisholmur was fine, but there was nothing noteworthy about it otherwise. The free internet in the lobby area was one nice perk.

we stayed here for 2 nights in June 2008. It is a guesthouse type small hotel, in the main street of Stykkisholmur close to the harbor, where the ferry to the West fjorden leaves. It is a good choice to stay here when you have to catch the 9.00hr ferry the next morning. We had a very small room with shower, but everything was spotless clean and OK. In the evening you get yourself in with the key of the room. Free (but slow) internet on a public computer in the entrance area. Breakfast was fine.

Only a few steps away into the direction of the harbor at your right you will find an excellent restaurant Narfeyrarstofa at Adalgata 3. Go early as it is the only nice restaurant in town and the number of tables is limited.
