Description: Narfeyrarstofa restaurant and café is the oldest operating restaurant in Stykkishólmur. It’s a family business and is open all year round. Narfeyrarstofa’s menu features inventive dishes served artfully in the beautiful surroundings of the restaurant, where utterly charming views from the premises bring life to the atmosphere. There is a strong emphasis on creativity in the kitchen, and it is safe to say that craftsmanship is held in high regard, as the ingredients are of the finest quality and sourced locally wherever possible. Narfeyrarstofa’s chefs prepare all ingredients from scratch, and the kitchen makes use of a powerful meat processor as local meat is prepared in different ways for the various dishes on the menu. From the restaurant there are views over Breiðafjörður bay’s “natural pantry”. Ingredients from there are on the table every day, exceptionally fresh. Blue mussels from Breiðafjörður are always on offer when in season. The menu also has a selection of hamburgers, proclaimed to be “the real deal”, “juicy” and “even better than búllaburgers” by our guests, who come back for them again and again! Our wine menu is unusually diverse and features specially selected wines of various types. The restaurant is in a two-storey house built in 1906 in the heart of Stykkishólmur, by the old church that towers over Aðalgata. There is room for 70 people indoors, and it’s also possible to sit outside when the weather’s nice. The atmosphere at Narfeyrarstofa is warm and welcoming, and the staff and the owners do everything they can to provide outstanding service to their guests.

“Unprofessional, and nothing special”
Reviewed September 12, 2013 via mobile

We went to this place as nothing else was open, late Monday night. We were prepared to spend money for what we thought was going to be good food and service at nice environment but we were completely disappointed. The service was really bad. You don't get sense from the waiters they are trying to accommodate customers and want them to have a pleasant meal. They were not paying attention to the floor and we had to keep trying to get their attention. (One was happily chatting with his friends who came there to have coffee.) The food was nothing over average and you have to wonder what is special about this place. In particular the fish was less than average, and local musseles were tiny (not their fault) and didn't have much taste. For some reason, the waiter gave us only one of two menus they have and it was only when people at other tables were served hamburgers we realised we were not given both menus. This place should be described as a cafe not a restaurant. The noise from the coffee machine was annoying so too the noise from the pantry. Overall, our dinner at this place was not a pleasant experience at all. We had however a very nice dinner at the Settlement Museum next day. The waiters and waitresses were all very nice.

“Consistently good”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

After first visiting in May we returned to Narfeyrarstofa for a late dinner after a rough ride on the ferry Baldur (very windy and rough sea).

The staff and the food are still very good and we were (once again) very pleased with our meal.

If you stop in Stykkisholmur then make this your "pit stop" as the food is excellent, the wine list is good and the staff is great.

Thumbs up on this one.

“Charming place”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Typical local restaurant in a nice town. Local food. We took mussels, Fish of the day (ling) and Cod. Fresh and delicicous fish.
We payed around 50€ which is not too much for a good restaurant in Iceland.
If you are in the area I recommend to taste mussels in here. The Restaurant is in addition in an old traditional icelandic house.
