When you drive into Vik, it's absolutely gorgeous. The green mountains, black beaches and purple flowers with a church on the hill make it one of the more picturesque towns in a picturesque country.

This new hotel looked new and modern. The room was well appointed and on the larger side but spartan, and was my favorite hotel we stayed in. The bathroom was spacious. Plenty of room to spread out your bags, which was a bit rare in Iceland. The lights down the halls came on only when people were in them, which was a nice energy-saving touch.

Our room was on the back side, so our view was of the mountains. It did make the room darker, which was nice at night when it didn't get dark.

I'd highly recommend staying here. The town is beautiful and the hotel is great (and we definitely stayed in some "not great" places.)

After staying at a number of 2-3 star older hotels while circling Iceland, the brand new (March 2014) IcelandAir Hotel in Vik was refreshing. Attached to the older Hotel Edda (which we were booked into originally), rooms are clean and neat, relatively spacious, only elevator within 400 km in southern Iceland (important for my 70 year old dad), good wifi, excellent breakfast

Room Tip: Ocean view is better, although make sure you are high enough to see over the Hotel Edda

Although the hotel room was very spartan, it was very clean and neat. The hotel is undergoing a large number of renovations and improvements and were evident throughout the hotel. The dinner we had as a group was excellent as was the breakfast buffet the next morning.

You get what you'd expect from this hotel - good rooms, fab breakfast, spotless etc. We had a great room with a view of the sea but we paid more for this. It was expensive for what you get - I wouldnt stay there again for that reason. The Hotel Edda which is attacted looked good and is alot cheaper.

Room Tip: Sea view is great but we paid extra for this.

We were booked into the Hotel Edda Vik which is adjacent to this new Icelandair hotel but they put us in the Icelandair Hotel when we arrived. Good position, just short walk to town where there are restaurants and petrol etc. Very nicely appointed hotel with large rooms, plenty of hanging space, tea & coffee and Wi-Fi. Big bathroom with good shower and plenty of counter space. Good breakfast in large dining room. Tour groups use the hotel. It is expensive like most hotels in Iceland but as this hotel is brand new it is worth the money. Would recommend a stay here.

Brand new hotel with modern, clean rooms and great bathrooms. Our best sleep in Iceland and Scandinavia.

It amazes me that in a country where there is 21 hours plus of daylight during summer that no hotels have blackout curtains. This is the first hotel in 4 weeks where the room was dark enough to get a good nights sleep. Hooray and well done!! ( You should carry this through to your other hotels where this is not the case.)

Helpful and pleasant staff. Free and good speed internet.

Only negative is the restaurant .... Very expensive and over-promises and under-delivers - BIG time! I have eaten in Michelin starred restaurants that are cheaper ... And the food here was barely edible. Breakfast was well below expectations as well.

Overall value is good by Iceland standards, but overpriced compared to other destinations (Iceland's tourism industry will struggle to expand given that accommodation prices are way too high given the quality of product and service - and there are destinations that offer similar glacier / landscape experiences at a fraction of the price eg Canada, Alaska, New Zealand. Service standards and guest care are not great. We decided that the country is named not for its glacial landscape, but the icy temperament of its people!)

It's a luxury hotel, so obviously the price was not cheap (170€ per night) but still great value for money, as Iceland is not cheap in general... the service was impeccable, the room beautiful and clean, and very quiet. Breakfast has a huge buffet with plenty of choice, even different types of fish, plus fruit and vegetables.
Great staff and location.

Room Tip: They are working on the area in facing the rooms at the back of the building, so the view from those...
