“Nice views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

We were in one of the summer cottages which are good fun, but the walls are quite thin. Nice views across to the sea.

Great breakfast. The waffles were fantastic. You have to pay extra for breakfast.

There was wifi in the lobby. Could do with it throughout.

The rooms are basic with no frills. This was a little surprising given the price and the fact that it is a chain hotel. Comfortable and clean. We pushed the 2 twin beds together without any problem. Breakfast was very nice with salmon and trout. The waffles had rhubarb jam spread that was fantastic. Close to a good location to see Puffins.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights of an 18-day tour of Iceland. It is a nice hotel set about 100m away from the main ring road. The rooms are all clean and have a good view of the cliffs beyond the main ring road. The only WiFi is in the lobby and costs ISK 900 (about €8 in Jul 2012) for 24 hours. The buffet breakfast was good and varied.

Stayed in June on my cross country solo trip around Iceland. The hotel is easy to find, clean and in a good location for the black sand beach, the mountain and the small church nearby. It's a good place to stop for an early start to the glacier lagoon and national park if you are heading south/east. I have no regrets -- of course -- I have been to Iceland 4 times before so I knew what to expect. For one thing, this is a "village" not a major city -- everything is easy to find and walkable -- if you are planning on spending time in Vik itself, I would recommend a beach walk (about an hour), a hike on the mountain (about 2 to 3 hours), visiting the craft store and restaurant (maybe an hour) and possibly a trip to the local swimming pool. I would be good to arrive around 4 to 5 (in summer) because you can get an early state for further points south. Overall, the hotel was clean, the staff was great and the wifi worked well in the reception area. Did do the breakfast but heard it was good. Do not hesitate to stay.

Our room in this generic hotel was little more than a dormitory. To add to this sense, the staff claimed all rooms in the hotel sported only two twin beds - apparently there are no doubles and they are unwilling or unable to join the twins to form one. The shower spayed all over the bathroom, as the curtain would not confine the water to the small corner where the shower head is located. To top it off, this was the only place we stayed on our two week trip where breakfast was not included. For a pricey sum tacked onto our room rate, we got just your average continental breakfast.

Wouldn't stay again - there's got to be a better place in Vik.

My boyfriend and I stayed here on the 2nd night of our 8-day cross country self-drive tour. It was a nice hotel, the room was very clean and the staff was nice.

When we checked in, we thought we had a summer cottage but the front desk said they were overbooked and assigned us the room in the main building. It was a little disappointing but the front desk said it was actually an upgrade to live in the main building. So if you really want the summer cottage, make sure to contact the hotel in advance, or arrive earlier.

Breakfast was at additional cost, 1500 ISK per person.

Overall, a very nice stay. We had a late dinner at their restaurant. They suppose to close at 10pm but the staff kept on having customers in, which was very nice of them given everything else closed at that time.

The Edda Vik motel is situated a block away from the main rd, so it is a very good location for travelers that overnight on their way to the South. Nothing to brag about here, but the rooms were clean, and the beds comfortable. The only thing I did not like is that you can hear the people in the next room. But being exhausted from the driving I did not really matter, I was asleep pretty quickly. When in Vik, a walk around this small town is a must, and also on the black sand beach that stretches for miles. This town is full of lupine plants that gives this town a purple hue. The food here was OK, but the soup made from the Angelica plant that grows wild here it was something rally tasty and something I never had before. It was so delicious that I could not stop eating.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the middle of the left wing as you are facing the front desk. The right wing is very...
