“Comfortable place to recharge”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

We stayed here after hiking Fimmvordehals - we wanted a hot shower, a hot pot, and a soft bed. We got all three. The highlight was the hot pot for sure, beautifully situated outdoors, and a great place to swap travel tips with other guests. You can have a drink there if you like too.
The room we had (#39) was on the small side, and the wood panels could be either musty/old or charming, depending on your mood. But beds were comfortable and the shower was fine, so no complaints there. The breakfast spread was generous, with good fresh bread, porridge, skyr, etc.
We thought it would be a cheesier sort of place because it's geared for tour buses but we ended up being happy with the stay and feeling like it was good value in a lovely setting.

We chose this because it was one of the more affordable options between Vik and Skaftafell Park, and we enjoyed the onsite hot pots (with a drink from the bar in hand, gazing out at the sea). The dinner and breakfast were excellent, and the rooms were comfortable enough. The only downside to this place is that it's built for the tour bus crowd and can get busy quickly when the bus arrives.

Hotel Hofdabrekka is a good place to stop along the east coast. The hotel staff is helpful and pleasant, the breakfast brunch is a fantastic, filling and tasty way to start the day and the spa tub and sauna are relaxing. The room was clean and had the conveniences you'd expect. However the room was a little musty with wood paneled walls, cramped with two single bed (one bed had the drapes almost touching your face above you) and the bed linens are dated (comforter versus duvet - everywhere else I stayed had duvets) and . Really it's just esthetics.

Nice hotel a few kilometers out of the town Vik. Good rooms. A beautiful hottub. A member of staff even asked us if we would like to have a drink there. I can't hardly remember a better place to have been drinking my beer after a good day of hiking. The view from the hottub was phenomenal.
They serve a full breakfast in the morning with waffles, porridge, yoghurt, fruit, home made (very tasty) bread.

Front desk was friendly and informative. Even though our room was facing the road it was still so quiet and we still had a great view of the hills and landscape. The new hot tub is crazy clean and has showers and and change rooms right next to it so you don't have to make a mad dash from your room in the chilly Icelandic wind. The shower was a bit annoying as it constantly fluctuated from ice cold to burning hot and I was in a never-ending battle with the shower curtain which always sticks to you. Ate at the restaurant as well which was a bit disappointing, pizza was very plain and they ran out of most seafood. Besides that I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The rooms in the Hotel Hofdabrekka are scattered around several different buildings and that can be a little inconvenient as you must go outside to get to the restaurant, but you don't go to Iceland to stay indoors in the warm! The rooms were open, light and modern; generally quite nice however lacked a duvet and the pillow was awfully small. I think the lack of duvet may have been because I was travelling with a school, but either way it is very disappointing. The bathroom was poorly designed mainly due to the shower that featured nothing but a curtain so without care water can get everywhere.
Fish and chips was served for dinner and it was nothing special; not even good. The chips remained undercooked throughout the evening. Breakfast was a little more pleasing but not overly impressive.
The hotel did include free WiFi and a small hot-tub which were nice little extras. So that boosts my rating for value for money. The location is just outside the village of Vik i Myrdal, and about 1/2 a mile from the coast. It is very exposed and it can get very windy, just a pointer; I can't really blame the hotel for that!

Room Tip: If you are the type who hates walking outside when dressed up for dinner, try to secure a room in on...

Most of the hotels on our trip in iceland had super nice down comforters. This hotel had poly covered stiff covers and horrible pillows. Other than that a standard breakfast that was good and pretty decent wifi
