I had seen pictures of this beach and couldn't visit Iceland without seeing it! Despite a long drive and a little trouble finding it (stop at the very friendly Visitors' Center in "downtown" Vik and get a map and directions if you have time, but it's basically the turn BEFORE the big headland and the road down into Vik if you're coming from Reykjavik). I wasn't disappointed! The beach is beautiful, the basalt cliffs just like the pictures, and the sound of the water hitting the rocks on the beach is magical. All that, and lots of birds too! I was traveling with my mobility-limited mother who couldn't make it as far as the cliffs but the views even from the parking lot are spectacular. One tip: make sure you visit the arched rock at the other end of the beach (accessible down another road just a few miles up from where you turn in for this one), really the bookends of a magnificent spot!
