We stayed just one night. The room is typical of so many guesthouses in Iceland; clean and basic. The room had a view over a field at the back. The town of Vik, where you'll need to drive to get dinner is about 10 minutes away. The breakfast was the typical Icelandic fare of cold cooked meats, cheese, cucumber and tomatoes. The highlights were the fresh bread and the made to order scrambled eggs.

I have travelled the world and encountered the best and worst of hotel accommodations. Volcano Hotel is an extraordinary find that harkens back to the traditions of innkeepers tending graciously to guests who find themselves on wayward adventures far from home.

The accommodations are simple, but very nice. Wifi was available as was television. Radiant heat was plentiful. Furnishings were chic and decidedly European rustic. It is a small, but lovely property with a tremendous feeling of warmth and comfort.

My fiancée and I arrived late, around midnight. We were starving and when we asked if there were any available food options, the night caretaker responded with trepidation and said there really wasn't anything available. Sensing our despondent air and forlorn faces, he offered ham and cheese sandwiches to which we heartily said thank you.

We didn't expect much for that hour, but were pleasantly surprised when he brought panini style had and cheese sandwiche. Granted we were starving, but the sandwiches really were prepared with a touch of thoughtfulness and effort that is rare these days.

The sleep was good. We woke to a wonderful, hearty breakfast.

As our wedding was at 3pm at Dyrholaey, we requested a late check out so that we would need not spend the early afternoon in the queue glad in tuxedo and wedding dress. They were gracious and very helpful and allowed the extended check out.

Finally, they helped coordinate transportation and pick up with our wedding officiant.

I can't say enough positive things. We will be back for sure. And any person finding themselves in southern Iceland ought to spend at least one night at the Volcano Hotel.

A friend and I stayed here for 1 night during a week long road trip. The hotel is very nice. The rooms are clean and modern with a nice view. The bathroom was nice with good water pressure, hot water and no sulfur smell. The room had a hot water heater so you could take hot water on the road. There are blackout curtains in the room. There is a very nice common area where they serve breakfast and you can sit on the sofa in that room and relax and read. Breakfast was very nice and filling with a selection of breads, meats, cheese, and other continental breakfast items.

We loved our stay at the Volcano Hotel. It was peaceful, the staff was extremely friendly, and the breakfast was great. The rooms were large, updated, and clean. It is situated just outside of Vik with quick access to Vik as well as Skogar (check out the museum there, it doesn't disappoint) and Skogafoss (the waterfall in town). The owner also runs an excursion business that includes a glacier walk which was highly enjoyable as it is only small groups of 4. Totally worth it. The trip was in the late afternoon so most of the groups were coming off the glacier. We will definitely be returning!

A clean and quiet hotel just outside of Vik. Breakfast was good. When we arrived there was a mixup in our reservation and the room I thought I booked #7 was all ready in use we had room #6 a little smaller.
