“AMAZING! COMFORTABLE! TOP VALUE!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

The Volcano Hotel is a small boutique hotel just outside of Vik, Iceland. Each room is unique, comfortable, and spacious. The decor is beautiful, with a wonderful view and amazing showers. With only 7 rooms, created out of a renovated school house, this property is a once in a lifetime experience, and well worth the cost of the room. Breakfast is complimentary and delicious and in season (summer) they have a course menu that is top notch! We didn't want to leave!

Room Tip: Rooms 6 and 7 are HUGE, and rooms 4 and 5 have wonderful amenities, including couches and/or extra s...

Could not have asked for a better place. It is small but the rooms and decor were just fantastic. Staff was very kind and attentive. Location is wonderful. 2 thumbs up!! The wifi was great since you are going to need it out in the middle of no where which was a plus for us. The quietness around you is almost loud at times LOL....just awesome.

Room Tip: Ask for room #7 I think it is the largest. All the rooms are different and beautifully appointed so...

One of my two favorite B&B experiences over nine days in Iceland. Since the B&B is located 12 km outside of Vik, we thought it would be convenient to stay in and eat dinner prepared by the owners. We really enjoyed the fresh baked bread and delicious char and vegetables. Our twin room was very spacious, spotless and had a wonderful corner view. We grew used to super hot showers with great water pressure in Iceland and theirs was no exception. The highlight of our stay was catching stunning Northern lights right outside our room (keep in mind this is first week of September so we were lucky!). Earlier in the trip we had to drive miles outside of towns we were staying to escape from lights, but Volcano Hotel has only one neighbor within eyesight. Lastly, the hosts were very gracious and helpful and Johann gave us great advice on places to see on our drive the next day.

Room Tip: We had a corner twin room with huge windows all around and a window in the bathroom. It was either...

I found that the outside of Icelandic buildings (excluding larger city dwellings), are very bland and in my opinion not that pretty. When we drove up to the hotel, we were not impressed... until we walked inside. Everything is sleek and the floor is covered in smooth, black, volcanic pebbles! So great on your feed and beautiful. Breakfast was good too. The thing I really want to mention here is how awesome the owners are. This couple has 3 sons, and they all live in a home attached to the hotel, so they are always available to help. So, we had a rental car, and I managed to lock my keys inside the car!! In Iceland they only give you one key per car, so we were out of luck... Keflavik was 4+ hours away, and we had no car. The hotel owners stepped in. They called the rental car company for us, and worked to negotiate a rate for key drop off. Unfortunately, this was not going to come cheap, SO the owner actually had one of his friends drive the keys over. We had all day to kill (without a car), so we went on a volcano tour with the owner and some other guests. The tour was a blast, we hiked over glaciers, cooked grilled cheese sandwiches INSIDE the volcanic mountain (talk about geothermal energy!), and took pictures of rainbows around a waterfall. When we got back- we had our keys! The owner charged 2 of us the regular trip charge and gave the 3rd one for free- we paid that amount to his friend who drove the keys over. This is the kind of service this awesome family provides! Did I mention, he drove us into the city to grab supplies and $ out of the ATM in the am before the tour? He also took us to a black sand beach where we saw puffins.

Thank you!

At first we were somewhat disappointed by the fact that it was rather out of the way, quite in the middle of nowhere, then we realized it was a great place, with wonderful, clean rooms. Its located 12 kms west of Vik, the only place to have a decent dinner. Breakfast was really good. we really enjoyed our stay here.

This was definitely one of our favorite South Iceland hotels. The rooms were clean and fresh, and the people running the hotel were lovely. The breakfast was great, the setting felt private, and I was even able to buy a beautiful Icelandic sweater that had been hand-knit by the mother of one of the owners. What more could you want? The hotel is located near one of our favorite areas--Vik. In the evening, after checking in to the hotel, we drove to the beach area and were able to see puffins and other sea birds from very close range.

Ideal Base to explore all of the southern island. The small hotel is located near the ring street, but is very quiet, because there is almost no traffic on the street. They offer a very nice breakfast and very tasty smal dinner menu. Rooms are spacious and modern rooms. The owners are very knowledgable about all of island and offer excellent super jeep tours. Don't book anywhere else!
