You can't predict weather, but even in the middle of winter with rain and sleet slapping at your face, the Myrdalsjokull Glacier is mesmerising and the tour is more than you could possibly imagine. We have visited twice - both with disastorous weather (both in winter) and would return again in a flash. Brilliant

For we visitors, a guide is essential on the Glacier. It is an amazingly dangerous place with no knowledge but absolutely fantastic with a good guide. Fortunately we booked one through Eskimos when we had been looking at dog sledding. They sent us with Pietur (?spelling) who had all necessary equipment and calmly showed us how to put our crampons on, safety harness, gave us a trusty pickaxe like walking aid and only when we were totally ready, did we set off ( with sandwiches and drink in our packs). We are both over 60, love walking and being outside so this was a new adventure. Pietur carefully showed us the many pitfalls and steered us around crevices in the ice, and what an extraordinary experience it is to walk on a surface through which you can see! The sound of running water soon turns out to be a deep hole disappearing into blackness with blue/white ice at the surface opening. The adrenalin flowed and it was exhilarating to stand amidst such ancient frozen water and eat your sandwich. Imagination plays and I must say I was concentrating very hard just in case one of us slipped or fell; however we could not have been in better hands. You cannot rush on a glacier so there is a sort of peace but very different from sitting by a beautiful stream in a meadow!

Glacier is about 10 walk from the carpark but it is worth it. You can walk all the way to it but without a guide and the proper crampons, you shouldn't walk on it. It was covered with volcanic ash so it was black but still beautiful to admire. There is a kaffi with warm coffee and bathroom facilities at the carpark.

The Super Jeep tour was quite interesting going up to 1000 meters to then go down to 0 meter to the beach of black sand... I would go back in a flash.
