“Our favorite hotel in Iceland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Aldan for 2 nights and enjoyed every second! First of all, we were blown away by the drive into the town where the hotel is located. This fjord is gorgeous. Secondly, there were hardly any people around.

We stayed at the old bank building on the first floor and our room was huge! The bed was super comfy (I haves bad back) and I love the idea of individual down comforters so my wife can't get sassy with me for stealing the covers!

The hotel was clean, well decorated and certainly safe. The staff was friendly also. The breakfast was delicious even though I made a mess of the waffle maker each morning. We at dinner at the hotel restaurants both nights at it was quite delicious. We also loved hanging out on the front porch of the main building having cappuccinos and a slice of their always amazing daily cakes.

There are some amazing hikes in the area too. We also spent a morning at the local pool swimming laps. This area is just so private and unpopulated you really can get away from the world here and the nice accommodations at Hotel Aldan just out icing on the cake!

Hotel Aldan was a terrific stay! We stayed in the bank building - the room was gorgeously appointed with antique furniture and coverlets (such a refreshing change after the Ikea-chic of Reykjavik!), very comfortable. The hotel is centrally located, but there is almost nothing open in Seydisfjordur in the winter months. Breakfast (included) was in the main hotel, in a lovely cafe setting. The breads were warm and delicious, and everything was quite satisfying. Definitely recommend!

Room Tip: The bank building was lovely!

Comfortable rooms (I stayed in the annex called Hotel Snaefell) which are beautifully decorated in keeping with the age of this historic building. This hotel is different (in the nicest ways) to the others I had stayed in on my holiday. Individual style. The restaurant is not cheap but the food was outstanding and a highlight of the stay. Cheaper food nearby at the gas/petrol station. One of the more memorable places I have stayed on my travels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking towards the harbour; nice view of the Norrona (the ferry from Denmark).

My room was in the Hotel Snaefell, one of the three houses that make up this hotel, and was utterly charming: lovely waterside setting, traditional decor and furnishings, ample public spaces (including a playroom for children). The room itself was not exactly huge (and the bathroom compact), but it was light and airy, quiet, and generally comfortable. There is also free wi-fi and a filling breakfast that includes waffles.
Dinner in Hotel Aldan restaurant was also first-rate - I didn't expect to find such fine cuisine in such a small, out-of the-way place, but the chef clearly knows what he’s doing - the rack of lamb and panna cota were both better than I had ever had before. Overall, this was the most enjoyable hotel/restaurant experience I had in Iceland.

I fell in love with this hotel. Even though we only stayed for one night, i loved everything from the tea in the hallway cabinets to the big bathtubs to the front of house service, i would come back here any time. it was just so charming.

We got in late and a lovely young woman was still in the dining area waiting for us. She came out and showed us where we were going and was laughing and happy and a welcome site after being cramped in the car for a while. We stayed in the bank building in a room for three. the beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and well stocked with products and amenities.

Breakfast was included and included make your own waffles with bacon crumbles to put on top. Best breakfast of the trip.

Though the room was very small we liked our stay there enormously. Maybe it's the beauty of that small town, or perhaps the wonderful atmosphere or the execpetional experience we had at the kayaks (with Linur). Anyway, it is most recommended in every aspect. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and enjoyed it tremendously as well.

We spent one night here in July and loved the room on the upper floor with the additional alcove sleeping area. Very charming and noise from other guests was not an issue. We were underwhelmed by the dinner we had in the restaurant as well as the lack of interest by some of the staff. We felt it was very expensive and not worth it. I'm sorry we didn't get to try dinner at the cultural center. We enjoyed walking around town at sunset and loved Seyðisfjordur.
