Guesthouse Nordursild
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We've just got back from Iceland and this place was a real find. For a start Seydisfjordur is in a quite breathtaking part of the world and the drive into the fjord was the most enjoyable wiggly road I've ever driven on.
On to the accommodation. Guesthouse Nordursild is in an old fish factory and it has been totally refurbished. There is very few places to stay in the village, which surprised me as it's where the ferry comes in from Norway. The room all have a private bathroom, which was rare for Icelandic guesthouses. You could just tell that it would be a very cosy place to stay on a colder night, but we had great weather.
The landlord was very accommodating and there is a fantastic bistro just down the road. The previous reviewer reckoned you need a car to get into the village, but it was no more than 300 metres, which to me is walking distance.

After driving around the quaint little village of Seydisfjordur, we were unable to find the one place that was just right for our two night stay. Hotel Aldan was just way too expensive for the teeny tiny room with twin beds they were offering, and I am just done with my days of shared bathrooms, so the hostels weren't looking too appealing. We parked outside Skaftfell to scavenger their wifi and used google phone to call up a few places. We came across Guesthouse Nordursild which was within our budget AND had private baths AND was right on the fjord! The woman told us to come to the gas station, she called up her husband, and he took us over to look at the room. The guesthouse used to be an old fish factory, but it has been totally renovated (very recently it seems since everthing looked very new), so there are no funky odors. The place is clean and cozy with great heaters, comfortable beds, and nice hot showers. There is a kitchen and common area downstairs. It seemed like there was only one other room occupied on our first night, and we were the only ones staying there on our second night. I would definitely stay here again. Just so you know, you probably need a car if you want to stay here. It's not in the center of town. It's walkable, but it would be difficult to walk over with luggage.
