Description: TapasBarinn is an extremely lively restaurant where Spanish tapas tradition meets the freshest Icelandic ingredients. It is located in a cellar at Vesturgata 3 in Reykjavik's central. The menu at TapasBarinn offers over 50 different meat, fish and vegetable dishes so you can take your time and experiment various flavour combinations. A must try is the Icelandic gourmet feast which is a great way to taste the best of Icelandic produce in one meal. The restaurant has been open since the year 2000 and has become a local favourite. It has the only kitchen in Reykjavík that is open 23:30 on weekdays and 01:00 on weekends. The breezy atmosphere and the Spanish effects in the decorations make TapasBarinn ideal for an enjoyable evening, a true ray of sunshine in downtown Reykjavík.

“Noisy and crowded.”
Reviewed July 8, 2009

Saturday night so made a reservation. Very crowded, and rather noisy, with large groups. The order took a while to arrive. Some dishes were better than others. Some meat was under cooked. A pleasant evening but not great.

“Fantastic Place”
Reviewed June 14, 2009

After a long day of viewing the South Shore of Iceland my Husband our new Irish friends ventured to the Tapas Bar. Between the five of us we tried about 15 different tapas. Every single one was delicious. We were able to walk right in and get a table on a Wednesday night. Make sure to check out some of the "local" items. You really can't go wrong here!

The restaurant was lovely and charming. The server was fantastic. We ended up staying for hours and no one said anything about them closing. We stayed about an hour after the close. We ended up tipping the server $20 since we had taken up his time and he was beyond polite to us.

“Well Worth the Wait”
Reviewed June 11, 2009

We did not make reservations and ended up waiting for about an hour, as It was a very busy Friday night in May. There were many locals eating here and several large tables celebrating birthdays. The food was magnificant and we enjoyed our meal and wine over 2 1/2 hours without feeling pressured to leave. The menu is big and enables you to try everything at your own pace. We ate puffin, lamb, saltcod and several other dishes but our favorite were the meatballs, so we ordered that dish again! The wait staff were amazing and we could not figure out how they were all able to wait each others tables so well!

“The best tapas”
Reviewed April 9, 2009

We loved this place. It had a good write up in lonely planet and it certainly lived up to expectations. We walked straight in on Sunday night and got a table. I think it was the only one at the time.

We had one set meal and the ordered seperate dishes. We wanted to try some local food and we certainly got that. The Puffin in blueberries was lovely, as was the lobster and monkfish. We weren't sure about the Minke whale but at least we got to try.

The staff bought dishes out with perfect timing and everything was fresh and very tasty. The seafood paella was delicious and all fish was incredibly fresh.

We eat tapas on a regular basis but this was the best we have tried.

It was a little pricy but we thought it was worth every penny.
