Description: TapasBarinn is an extremely lively restaurant where Spanish tapas tradition meets the freshest Icelandic ingredients. It is located in a cellar at Vesturgata 3 in Reykjavik's central. The menu at TapasBarinn offers over 50 different meat, fish and vegetable dishes so you can take your time and experiment various flavour combinations. A must try is the Icelandic gourmet feast which is a great way to taste the best of Icelandic produce in one meal. The restaurant has been open since the year 2000 and has become a local favourite. It has the only kitchen in Reykjavík that is open 23:30 on weekdays and 01:00 on weekends. The breezy atmosphere and the Spanish effects in the decorations make TapasBarinn ideal for an enjoyable evening, a true ray of sunshine in downtown Reykjavík.

I like this place, because it gives you an opportunity to try a variety of dishes. I always take family members there that have never been to Iceland to try the Icelandic specialities. They even have a meal including all the delicacies, such as whale, puffin, lobster, skyr, etc, for the travelers to try. I have also been there just to enjoy good food and I have never been disappointed. I hihgly recommend.

We were recommended this restaurant by an Icelandic local who we got talking to in a coffee shop - she said it was her favourite. We tried it that night and were not disappointed. We were able to get a table (for 2) without a reservation early evening. The restaurant was 'intimately lit' (i.e. a little on the dark side for us!") and was busy - a good sign. We went for the Tapas Our Way / A journey into the unknown 7 tapas deal. Comprised dried ham/mozarella, oxtail on brioche, salmon on avocado, scallops wrapped in bacon with dates / pan fried quail with couscous and aioli / lamb kebab with pesto & feta / cod with sweet potato, fennel and tomato, French chocolate cake. All very tasty. Friendly and efficient waiting staff.

Tapas is a really good way of trying lots of local dishes without worrying about cost. Reykjavik is pretty pricey and to try all of their specialties would set you back a bit and when you're trying something new that you may not like it can be risky! Myself and my boyfriend shared the traveller menu with a few extra dishes on the side. Neither of us were fans of the puffin but glad that we'd tried it! And just when we thought we couldn't possibly eat anymore they bought more dishes. The food was great, atmosphere really good and staff very attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend.

Didn't have a reservation but managed to get a seat in 20 minutes. Food was great, server was friendly, and good ambiance - we'll be back next time we're in Reykjavik!

I enjoyed eating at this place! It is a bit dark and romantic, the service is friendly and prompt and overall the atmosphere is very nice. When you sit down, you get some bread with delicious spreads but save some room for the rest! I tried the Icelandic feast, which was about $50 with a shot glass of alcohol and 6 tapas – do not let the size deceive you – I was full after 2 small places. The food was really good and the dessert (Icelandic yogurt skyr-based) was amazing. Highly recommend – you can try many Icelandic delicacies (puffin, lamb, whale) in one feast!
