Description: TapasBarinn is an extremely lively restaurant where Spanish tapas tradition meets the freshest Icelandic ingredients. It is located in a cellar at Vesturgata 3 in Reykjavik's central. The menu at TapasBarinn offers over 50 different meat, fish and vegetable dishes so you can take your time and experiment various flavour combinations. A must try is the Icelandic gourmet feast which is a great way to taste the best of Icelandic produce in one meal. The restaurant has been open since the year 2000 and has become a local favourite. It has the only kitchen in Reykjavík that is open 23:30 on weekdays and 01:00 on weekends. The breezy atmosphere and the Spanish effects in the decorations make TapasBarinn ideal for an enjoyable evening, a true ray of sunshine in downtown Reykjavík.

“Good food, a little pricey”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

We loved the food, and the wine was great. It was a little expensive, but definitely worth it. We tried the puffin with blueberry compote just because we felt we had to. it was surprisingly good, though not something we're likely to order again. it felt a little like a tourist gimmick.

But the food really was excellent here. we'd definitely go again.

“Not traditional tapas”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

My family and I were attracted to this menu by the promise of some Icelandic favourites in different environment. In the event we had a pleasant evening with different foods and a good atmosphere. We started with smoked puffin and sea trout, followed by lamb, minke whale, lobster and monkfish, topped with cheese cake. Some of the dishes were better than others, as is typical when you are trying new foods, but the cooking and service were very good throughout.

“Go somewhere else!!!!”
Reviewed October 28, 2012 via mobile

If you enjoy being insulted by the staff and being treated like idiots then this is the restaurant for you in Reykjavic.

The food was edible but very uninspiring, there appeared to be an over-reliance on the microwaves in the bar/kitchen area. The wine was expensive even for Reykjavic. There are many great bars and restaurant in Reykjavic, try them and don't waste your time in Tapas Barinn.

“Pricey but big portions”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

We found this restaurant in the square near the harbour. It's quite dark inside, with candle lit tables. There is a large menu of spanish food as well as other food from around the world such as kangaroo and snails. There were two of us and we ordered 6 tapas dishes between us. We often eat tapas and are used to the small portions but at Tapas Barinn the portion sizes are larger than your regular tapas bar. In fact, we could not finish our meal.
The bill, for 6 tapas dishes and one beer was around £50. This was probably the most expensive meal we had in Reykjavik. The food was nice but not really worth the price. We had a nice meal but I doubt we'd go back.

“Very over-rated & expensive”
Reviewed October 17, 2012 via mobile

We were looking forward to this and booked a table.. No 'reasonably' priced wines on the menu considering what they cost! Just isnt worth it. Lobster tails were a joke! No meat on it at all!!! Be warned... The fillet of lamb is served cold! Overall i got the feeling they were more interested in getting u out rather than in. I love tapas but this was a joke
