Description: TapasBarinn is an extremely lively restaurant where Spanish tapas tradition meets the freshest Icelandic ingredients. It is located in a cellar at Vesturgata 3 in Reykjavik's central. The menu at TapasBarinn offers over 50 different meat, fish and vegetable dishes so you can take your time and experiment various flavour combinations. A must try is the Icelandic gourmet feast which is a great way to taste the best of Icelandic produce in one meal. The restaurant has been open since the year 2000 and has become a local favourite. It has the only kitchen in Reykjavík that is open 23:30 on weekdays and 01:00 on weekends. The breezy atmosphere and the Spanish effects in the decorations make TapasBarinn ideal for an enjoyable evening, a true ray of sunshine in downtown Reykjavík.

Nice mix of spanish and icelandic food. The music was from Latin America, not Spain (for the picky ones). Tall people beware of the low roof on the back!!!!

We ordered the taste of Iceland tapas. We did not like all the dishes and felt would have been better off ordering things we knew we would like. However we wanted to try some local things. Minke whale- we had this at another restaurant and it was great. Here, it was just ok. We did not like the puffin and the lamb was undercooked. The lobster, monkfish and shrimp were good, but cold when we got them. Desserts, drinks and atmosphere were enjoyable. I would go back but would stick to items I know I like

We read the good reviews of Tapas Barinn but were somewhat skeptical until a Spanish friend of ours told us that she ate there when visiting Reykjavik and loved it. Our dinner was excellent overall, but two of the dishes were not cooked quite right (fish overcooked, lamb partially undercooked). Given how delicious the flavor combinations were and how great everything else was -- the Sangria included -- we would not hesitate to return.

In addition to the Sangria, which we could have kept drinking all evening, we enjoyed and recommend the following dishes:
- Filet of lamb with plum sauce (the part we could eat was absolutely delicious, but about 1/3 of the lamb was undercooked)
- Salmon spear with tarragon
- Serrano with manchego
- Grilled marinated aubergine and zucchini
- Patatas bravas

We also got the oven-baked saltfish (salt cod) with artichokes and mozzarella, but the cod was so overcooked it felt like chewing rubber. That was the one real miss.

The restaurant was packed and it looks popular. I had eaten there before and loved it. Now they don't have Chorizo on the menu any more and some of the dishes did simply not taste good.
