Booked via the tourist place on the main shopping street. They explained all the refund policies etc which seemed fair to us. The original booked night was cancelled due to inclement weather which was fair as the sky was completely clouded over, they emailed us by 18:30, and asked us to give additional dates so we could rebook, we chose the following night as it was our last and this was fine. We were told to be ready for pickup between 20:00-20:30 at our hotel and they collected us at 20:05 in a heated jeep. We then collected other guests and met an additional jeep at Perlan Observatory. They introduced themselves and let us know what the plan was, we drove towards Keflavik for about 45mins and stopped by the "haunted" house in total darkness, it was an excellent spot with clear views of the stars. The lights were already visible but faint, and they faded and grew on and off throughout the trip. Throstur's knowledge was amazing, he explained everything, he was very enthusiastic and jovial throughout the whole trip. His passion in his job was clear. They set up the camera and continuously took photos, group pics, couples, silly pics whatever you wanted. Also they had some fun lights to get some more unusual photos! They gave top tips on keeping warm, dished out super tasty homemade hot chocolate and traditional Icelandic doughnuts. Throughout Throstur also explained about the stars, discussing Greek mythology, North Star, Milky Way, Beetlegeuse, his knowledge is incredible, and showing us through the telescope he had set up. It was freezing, we did the trip in January and it was thick with snow, we wore full thermals and temp dropped to about -7c, you are outside for about 3 hrs, the jeeps have a special heat system that runs constantly and you can get in and out to warm up when you need to. Throstur and Mariusz continuously check on your comfort and we did feel looked after. We came back to all the amazing pictures emailed to us via Dropbox and great memories of their amazing stories! This tour is more expensive but well worth it due to the pictures you get, (can't take without tripod and long exposure), and the fabulous personal experience our guides gave, thank you!
