“Hotel Nordica”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

Just back from a 4 night stay at the Hotel Nordica Reykjavic. We found the hotel exactly as we expected and no big surprises. Staff were very helpful, especially when my wheelchair broke. They found us a wheelchair supplier close by to organise a replacement. Nordica staff also very kindly took care of disposing of my broken chair! The next day, one of the reception staff sought us out to check everything had worked out ok - lovely lady. The hotel was very well placed for us, but we did have a car. We felt we were close enough to everything we wanted. Our room had a stunning view to the sea and the mountains. Breakfasts were great with a huge selection and variety - worth every penny as it kept us going for the day! We only had one other meal in the hotel, a meal in the bar, which was really good quality. Now, sadly just a couple of very small 'issues' (not significant enough to call complaints). The hotel dining information pack describes room service being available 24 hours, yet the one time we tried to order something at about 11pm we were told the kitchen had closed at 10.30! This wasn't a major problem though as there is a hot drink machine and chiller cabinet offering sandwiches etc in the lobby. Our room was way too hot for us and even with both windows open, we found it too hot. There was no climate control in room, so nothing we could do. Finally, and this is possibly just a personal thing, but in a 4 star hotel we expect to at least have cups and saucers on our tea tray - what's with paper cups? Also, no milk. If you like tea like me, you do not want to use powdered creamer in it! All in all though, we had a great trip in a lovely hotel with really helpful caring staff.

Room Tip: Worth asking for a room at the front for the views!

Very nice hotel with efficient and friendly staff. Rooms were large and clean and there were lovely views over the city. Hotel a little bit out of main area but hotel did provide a bus pass so we could use the buses for free. Only gripe was if you don't pay for breakfast, you need to have their buffet which, at £16 per head, is a little pricey. On saying that, if you have time to enjoy it, the breakfast is delicious. We booked all our tours from the hotel via Reykjavik Excursions who were brilliant. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Spent four days/three nights here having booked as part of a Telegraph "secret escapes" deal. Package incorporated flights/an executive room and several coach excursions. We really enjoyed every aspect of the trip and although we probably could have done it cheaper ourselves, we booked at family short notice and were happy to take the deal.

In terms of the Hilton, it did come very close to a five star rating and we would almost definitely stay there again. Our arrival was one of the only disappointments. We had asked for a sea facing room but were told that this wouldn't be possible as the hotel was fully booked. Our room was spacious and clean. Very "white" in style with a separate sitting area and large TV. Bathroom small but had a bath and shower over. Bed very comfortable.

The biggest plus was access to the "executive lounge" and given the cost of food and drink elsewhere in the hotel and outside, we availed ourselves of all it had to offer esp at breakfast and during the 5pm to 7pm drinks and canapés session. The girls who staffed the lounge were especially nice.

We did visit the main bar too which whilst expensive didn't seem OTT compared to a bar we visited in town.

We also visited the spa once and had the complimentary 5 minute head and shoulder massage. Were disappointed to find that both of the hot tubs were broken at the time of our visit.

Location is 15 mins walk away from the city centre but the hotel supply free bus passes by way of mitigant.

We loved Iceland and I am sure we will be back to stay at the Nordic

Great hotel and for the most part great staff couple of off staff members but didn't dampen the mood of our stay. Rooms were clean and had fantastic views. Bar was quite pricey as was food, would have preferred more local choices on menu, But couldn't falter on quality. Overall it was a 5* stay in my opinion.

My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Nordica for 6 nights as part of our Icelandair package, we just returned home yesterday. Overall, it's a good hotel. Rooms appeared to be clean but our first evening my husband moved a chair to find a sock from a previous guest, not want you want to see. There was no coffee maker in the room and they charged 400 ISK for a coffee in the lobby. I know it's predominantly a business hotel and people on expense accounts don't care, but really? Bed was comfortable and we were fortunate enough to have a room on the 5th floor with a lovely view of the mountains and the ocean. The free bus pass came in handy and it was always easy to get a taxi but it would have been nicer to be downtown (that wasn't an option for us when we booked).

Lovely hotel, very clean. We were there 15th -18th feb. We requested a room with a view and wow, what a view. Our room was next to the executive viewing room, so probably the second best view from the hotel. It was room 802. We were on floor 8, and had a view of mount Esja, it was covered in snow and not a cloud in the sky the whole time we were there (3 nights), and it didn't get above freezing. If you want a holiday that is different from spending all the time on the beach then Iceland it is. Iceland has been on my bucket list since I was 7 and it was worth waiting the 43 years to get there, and the hotel was the cherry on the cake. The lady in the hotel gift shop sold us all our tours and she was so lovely and helpful, Thank you to her. Lovely spiral staircase too, I went down it but not up, took 1 of the 4 lifts.

We stayed here for five nights in February. The hotel is great, very clean and comfortable. Everything you would expect from a Hilton I expect (this was our first). we unfortunately did not have a sea view room (ask for an even number), but the room was very spacious and comfortable (except the pillows which are not very fluffy, but that's a personal preference). The hotel is near to town. We had a car (car parking is free at the Hilton) which we found brilliant and gave us the freedom to come and go as we pleased especially in the very cold weather. Parking in Reykjavik is 225K an hour (free after 6pm) which is fine for just popping in but not to staying in a hotel with no parking facility. Happy hour from 5-7pm was great and made the bar affordable, otherwise about £5 for a bottle of beer. Never tried the VOX restaurant as this was very pricey, the high tea was also pricey, but a treat and was outstanding.

Room Tip: Get an even number on a higher floor for amazing views
