“Comfortable witha nice view”

We stayed in the Nordica for three nights in mid-July. I picked the Hilton as the reviews on TA are generally favourable and the price per night was very reasonable.
We enjoyed our stay here as the rooms are clean and spacious. The hotel is well-situated as you can see the mountains in the distance from the front rooms.
The hotel is about ten to fifteen minutes from the centre of Reykjavik but its a straight walk into town and the hotel does seem to be bigger than most of the central hotels.

We were greeted cordially when we arrived. the clerk had our reservation and told us where our room was.
when we went up to find it, we realised that there was no room with that number.
I went back to the clerk who apologised and gave me the correct room number.
The room was lovely when we entered it but it was a double room and not the twin as requested.
I went back to the front desk. the clerk checked my booking and said that a double was requested.
I had my printout fron the Hilton site which confirmed a twin room
He sorted it out quickly and we were given a twin room looking out at Mount esja.
The room was a decent size and very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and the shower had great pressure.

we booked our tours through the hotel tour desk.
we were picked up each day at the hotel and dropped back at the end of each tour. Actually staying in the Hilton is convenient as it was always the first hotel to get Pick-up and also the first drop-off point.

Breakfast was not included in our room price but we tried it out one morning. The selection is fairly extensive and good value as you could fill up for the day.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you are staying in Reykjavik for a few days. Its close to the action but not in a noisy area if you are staying in reykjavik for the weekend.

We had a 24-hour layover in Reykjavik, and this was a good base for our stay. What we loved: the room was very attractive and modern; the lobby was beautiful; the clerk at the reception desk gave us an automatic upgrade (perhaps thanks to our Hilton Honors membership) to a room on the executive floor with a wonderful view of the water; the curtains were substantial enough to block out (at midnight) the daylight; the ability to check in for our Icelandair flight from the hotel lobby was really useful; we were able to borrow an umbrella; and the aiport shuttle stopped here. What could've been improved: knowledge of the hotel services (we were told when we were dropped off at the central bus station that the free Hilton shuttle would pick us up. When it didn't show up, I called the Hilton to find out if it really did come to the bus station and if so, when. The woman on the phone checked with her colleagues to find out and came back to tell me that it probably did but she didn't know when...so we paid for a cab instead.) and cost of breakfast (always high at these hotels, but still). The hotel isn't central, so we had a 20 minute walk in the rain along an unattractive commercial road to get to town--but it was OK, since we needed some fresh air after a trans-Atlantic flight.

This is a really comfortable, modern hotel. Rooms are a good size, neutrally decorated and spotlessly clean. There were Crabtree and Evelyn (La Source) toiletries in the bathrooms and the shower was nice and powerful.

We had some problems on the first night as the room was very warm, and we couldn't seem to find the air conditioning controls. In the end we just opened the window.

The breakfast was easily reason alone to book the hotel! The spread was fantastic (full cooked breakfast, breads and pastries, cheese and hams, porridge, yoghurts, a huge range of fruits - even bourbon biscuits) and it was all freshly cooked and extremely tasty.

The hotel is on an industrial estate about 2km out of the city centre. It is easily possible to walk, although the route isn't very scenic. However, the hotel offers a free shuttle service into town (and back) around five times a day; we used this and it was very convenient. You need to arrive early for pick-up, though, as it's a small bus and seats go quickly.

There's a Pizza Hut attached to the hotel (in addition to the more upscale Vox restaurant) and a 10-11 supermarket just behind it.

Desk staff were very friendly and helpful.

The hotel has two check-in terminals for Icelandair flights which allow you to print your boarding pass and the luggage tag for your suitcase. You then take your luggage with you to the airport and use the bag drop service - we found this saved a lot of time.

The hotel wasn't as quirky or as individual as Reykjavik itself, but it was comfortable and the breakfast was phenomenal!

I traveled to Reykjavik on business and actually booked the Hilton Nordica as a second choice because our first choice downtown was fully booked. It turned out to be a surprisingly good experience.

The check in process is really the only thing that went wrong. When I arrived they couldn't find my name or the names of my 2 clients. I had to get the travel agent to call the Hotel to verify that I actually had rooms. It turns out that they had booked the rooms under our given names instead of our family names which I guess is an honest mistake given the language barrier. The staff was courteous and helpful throughout the whole process.

The rooms are very small but incredibly efficient. Everything has a purpose and works perfectly. The decor is Nordic minimalist as you would expect.

Probably the best kept secret at this hotel is the food at the VOX. The breakfast buffet could not be more complete and includes many local specialties. The same can be said of the lunch buffet - the fish soup is probably the best I've ever had.

I tried the indoor spa - the massage was excellent.

The hotel is a bit far from downtown if you are walking on a windy day, but it is just a 5 minute cab away and there were plenty of cabs available.

  • Liked — the room's efficiency, the massage and the food at VOX
  • Disliked — The slightly off center location

The hotel is modern, airy, beautifully decorated. Hotel room was superb, huge, clean, carefully arranged, with a big, comfy bed; also big bathroom, flat TV screen and free wireless access. It is not located in the city centre. Views are noteworthy as the hotel is located in an industrial area. There is a shuttle bus that goes to the city 4 times a day. You can also walk (25 minutes) but there is no a nice one, just goes through a street package with cheap fast food restaurants and car dealers. There is also a parking in the premises for the guest. It is good value for money. Recommended.

We arrived very late into the evening and the staff was exceptionally helpful, friendly and efficient in their dealings with all those who had just disembarked from the airport transfer bus.

Our room was located on the sixth floor (actually fifth, ground floor is counted at the first floor) and had a wonderful view across to the sea and mountains.

The room was furnished to a modern standard with a generously sized double which was extremely comfy. The bathroom provided a number if complimentary toiletries as well as a powerful shower which delivered a good pressure and optimum temperature.

Breakfast was scheduled for early risers (starting from 4.30am) and later starting at 7.30am. A mix of continental and cooked breakfast items available including juices, bacon, pancakes, smoked salmon and a choice of eggs. If you wanted to request an omelette or your eggs poached, then the chef was more than happy to oblige. In addition, the staff were on hand to provide coffee and hot water for the variety of teas on offer such as jasmine, green tea, Earl Grey.

The hotel is a short ten minute walk to the start of the main shopping street (Laugavegur), passing the bus terminal (Hlemmut) where you can catch a number of buses back to the hotel. Also, the citysightseeing bus stops right outside the hotel just past the half hour, should you wish to get a feel of the town before exploring.

You are able to book excursions (to the Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle) from the Giftshop, located by reception as well as postcards, stamps and clothing. Also, you can surf the internet for free by using the computer, situtated to the side of reception.

Meals. Well, Iceland is expensive and there are a number of eateries near to the hotel such as a Pizza Hut, Mexican, French and Chinese. We opted to eat in the Vob Bistro which offered a number of dishes and wines and had two courses plus a bottle of wine. The restaurant is also open in the week, best to check the either within your hotel pack or at reception.

The whole feel of the hotel is very modern, light and all the staff speak English in case you struggle with the Icelandic language.

Recently returned from Iceland after staying 3 nights in this hotel. We stayed in a mountain view room-defenitely worth the extra £14.00 per night (2000 krona). The room was large and spacious with the bed facing the windows and the wonderful mountain view. Huge bathroom with a nice deep bath and shower. Wooden flooring and modern furniture - a very comfortable room.
Lovely buffet breakfast with a large variety of food to choose from as is typical of Hilton breakfasts ! just about anything you could wish for !
The Bistro Restaurant - we ate there one evening and service was excellent as was the food, a bit pricey as is everything in Iceland.
The spa area was being refurbished so all hot tubs out of order, only the outdoor sauna and hot tub available. They still wanted to charge the 2500 Krona admission which is why this hotel is not getting an excellent !!! Far better go to the local swimming thermal pools with hot tubs steam rooms and saunas for only 380 Krona - about £2.50 - an absolute bargain and the water is so warm !!!-10 minute walk from hotel, Reception will tell you where it is.
Had a lovely stay-sorry to leave. Excursions well worth booking. The Circle tour you get to see waterfalls and geysirs and of course the wonderful scenery.
We also booked the Blue Lagoon/airport drop off. ! Relaxing in the Blue Lagoon before flying back was amazing, clear blue skies, about 14 degrees celcius and warm blue water to swim/relax -my highlight of the trip.

  • Liked — comfortable rooms excellent service
  • Disliked — charging full price for the spa even though not much was available
