I have stayed at this hotel several times over the years, including in it's previous forms as the old Hotel Esja and more recently as the Icelandair Hotel Nordica. However, the relatively 'new' Hilton management seems to have breathed new life into this property. The rooms are spacious and functional, with the ones at the front enjoying open views. The location isn't as bad as it may seem, especially if you have a car (though there is a bus stop right outside, and public transport is free with the Reykjavik card). Although a little way from downtown, the Laugardalur sports centre and thermal pool is close by, and definitely worth visiting (again, free with Reykjavik card). 24 hour supermarket just around the corner. Staff I have encountered here have been pleasant and helpful. Only criticism would be the lack of decent restaurants in the area (hotel restaurant is rather pricey).

Room Tip: Always go for a room at the front - higher the better to get the views of the sea and Mt Esja.

All Reykjavik hotels have tiny rooms, and this one is no exception. It is, however, likely the cleanest and most modern of the chain hotels in Reykjavik.

Pros:
1) Clean and modern
2) Views of water on one side
3) Good restaurants nearby, shopping center within 15-20 minute walk
4) Served by buses to town center and RKV domestic airport
5) Free, reasonably fast internet in lobby
6) Infrequent but free shuttle to/from city center
7) Generally helpful staff.

Cons:
1) Small rooms
2) Not very centrally located
3) See below

The reason that this hotel loses a star, aside from its location, is an episode I had when checking in. I booked through one of the standard hotel search sites, and the booking specified a Queen bed. When I arrived, I was given a room with two singles, and was told that the Queen rooms were premium ocean-facing rooms, and would be an extra charge. Classic bait-and-switch, and not really the sort of thing you typically expect from a Hilton. Fortunately, I complained and showed them a paper copy of the booking confirmation, and raised enough of a ruckus that they caved and gave me the room - but it's not the sort of thing that I should be subjected to right after arrival.

Nice hotel, helpful staff. Stayed for four nights. Restaurant is expensive but quite good. Drinks are expensive as throughout Iceland. Husband walked to town in 18 minutes. Shuttle to town available late morning and evening. Not often enough in my opinion. Staff is helpful with travel information. Also lent me an adapter for my phone. Would recommend the hotel

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view toward the water

My husband and I stayed here for four nights and found everything to be great. The rooms are clean and spacious. The bathroom is enormous - one caution for anyone with mobility problems is that the tub is very high to step over when getting in for a shower and the floor of the tub is slippery as there is no rubber mat or grips -however there is a grab bar. I am very tall with no mobility problems and I found it to be a challenge. .We paid extra for a room with a view which was very pleasant. The hotel is quiet despite being very full and the staff at the desk are great as is the booking lady on the shop. It is a half hour walk to city centre. Or about $20 CAD cab ride. A hotel shuttle does travel between the hotel ANC city centre infrequently. We ate twice at a restaurant Askur ust a block from the hotel. It is very good and on Sunday night they offer a "steak" buffet. It is actually a lovely buffet of roast beef, por, turkey and lamb as well as two types of fish. There is Al's a smoked salmon, pickled salmon and pickled herring bar with black rye bread. It was the best smoked salmon I have ever eaten and hope they sell it duty free at the airport. The meal includes a soup, salad and bread bar. Excellent value at 3700 Icelandic krona which is cheap considering the tax and tip are included.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice with the only difference being the view.

A superb hotel in virtually every respect. Situated an easy 20-minute stroll from the main downtown area of Reykjavik, this luxury hotel is ideal for a short city break or as a base for touring Iceland. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortably furnished in the minimalist Scandinavian style, the lounge and reception area are comfortable. Breakfast, included in the room rate, is excellent as far as the cold buffet is concerned but - our only complaint - on the mornings we ate there, the hot buffet was cool and the fried eggs leathery. The Vox restaurant is pricey - as are all fine restaurants in Iceland - but there were many inexpensive eating places within 2 or 3 minutes walk from the hotel. Staff were extremely friendly and service was first class in all respects. The happy hour in the bar lasts 2 hours and all drinks are half price.

I stayed here for business for a week. The bed was hard and lumpy and looked nothing like the pictures online, so I assume there is an upgraded room avail, but I didn't ask. The room was clean, but the bathroom was small and overall the room lacked amenities such as mini bar and shoe polish/sewing kit. The breakfast was $35+ US, but if you can get a decent room rate with the breakfast included it was pretty good. Nice pastries, four styles of eggs, mini pancakes, beans, sausage, bacon and cold cuts. The hotel has no personality though, nothing about it is unique or "Icelandic". They do not have free wifi in the rooms, but it worked well in the lobby.
