“Brilliant homely place with excellent food”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

On a typically cold and snowy Reykjavik evening we were looking for homely and hearty food and Caruso was spot on.

We were led up increasingly narrow flights of stairs to the dining room on the top floor, with great memorabilia on the walls and a terrific atmosphere. The waiting staff were friendly, efficient, and funny too - they really added to the experience. One of us had the set menu with tasty beef carpaccio, salmon and panna cotta - special mention for 'one of the best panna cottas he has had'. I had the calzone pizza which was full of tangy and spicy tomato sauce and plenty of ham and mushrooms, so well flavoured and certainly filling.

The drinks menu is extensive and it is nice to see local craft beer on the menu. All in all a real holiday highlight.

“Warm welcome on a cold day!”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

I just had a late lunch today here and have to say what a great restaurant. The lobster bisque was delicious, the tomato soup was also worth mentioning. The veal in red wine sauce was simply outstanding and my companion's recommendation is to have it rare to medium! The salmon with herb crust was tasty but the veal was the star of the meal.

It is a relaxed atmosphere though not laid back either - water was topped up without prompting, the service was spot on, not intrusive but not wanting or having to ask for anything.

The menu is not pretentious and covers everything from cheesy garlic bread, pizza to lobster and rack of lamb, definitely something for everyone.

This was our first meal out in Reykjavik and we are trying to figure out how to fit in another visit.

this is a lovely little restaurant, very warm and welcoming on a very cold December day, the food as great with lots of choice we had Lobster salad and a chicken pasta dish which where very tasty and reasonably priced considering it's Iceland.
