We did two different tours on back-to-back days with Kommi. I can't say enough about how much we all enjoyed our time. We first did an evening tour of the Golden Circle (the Magical Mystery Tour), leaving Reykjavik around 6:00. It was really nice to see these sites without a crush of buses and other people. Kommi is such a great guide and over the two days we learned so much about Iceland - music, culture, politics, soccer, lullabies, food, religion, and on and on... It was amazing! The best part about being on a tour of our own was that we were free to improvise. We had dinner at a small family-run farm/hotel/restaurant. This is something we'd never have discovered on our own.
Day 2 we did the South Coast tour and again saw sites that the bus companies probably avoid. Loved the short hike into a canyon to see a hidden waterfall. Really, it was just ideal, and if we'd had more days in Iceland, I'd go with Iceland Expeditions again to find even more great spots. We hope to return in the fall or spring to experience some of the other tours, especially the northern lights.
Additionally, Kommi sent me the photos he took to add to my own. As the family photographer, I never end up in any of the photos, so it was nice to have a few that included me!
This was one of the best travel experiences we've ever had, and so much better and deeper an experience than we'd have had trying to explore the areas on our own.
