“A little gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2009

This nice little guesthouse is a gem! It is an older 3-story house has been converted into attractive, clean studio apartments. It has a great location: quiet neighborhood just west of the city center. Just a short, easy walk away are many restaurants, stores, banks, tourist office, the harbor (whale watching tours), and a Bonus super market. The place is great for budget-minded travelers who can save money by fixing some meals in the small studio kitchen (2-burner stove, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, sink, dishes & utensils)

My husband and I travelled to Iceland for the first time this past August. We researched a lot for a reasonable place to stay since Reykjavik can be quite expensive.

We spent one night at the Three Sisters which was clean and comfortable, and centrally located. The owner there, was especially accommodating since we had to transfer our luggage to his place very early morning (we went on an all-day-tour), and we returned very late to collect both our luggage and the room key. Nonetheless, he was happy to help and we were very pleased with the accommodations--a studio-style, self-catering apartment with a small kitchen, bathroom with shower and toilet, bedroom and sitting area with TV.

We would definitely recommend it to fellow travellers.

We stayed 2 nights at the Three Sisters. It is a house that has been converted to studio apartments. We saved a lot of money by cooking in the apartment. A meal for 2 in reykjavik can cost $60 or more! The kitchen is small but well equipped. The bathroom is a good size with plenty of hot water. Beds were reasonably comfortable. You can take the fly bus from the airport to the bus station and then from there take the shuttle to Hotel Metropolitan; ask the shuttle to drop you off at the Three Sisters. The apartments are a nice location - just a 5 minute walk to the city center.

My only complaint about this place - they said they had wi fi internet in the rooms but, but it didnt work. They also didnt have phones in the rooms. So if you are business traveler this might be inconvinient.

  • Liked — being able to cook, location close to city center
  • Disliked — no internet in rooms, no phone in rooms

We used Reykjavik as a "home base" for a portion of our week long trip to Iceland. As we have two children, we wanted a place with a refrigerator at least, and possibly other kitchen facilities, in order to be able to have breakfast "at home." Three Sisters has two guesthouses with studio apartments; the one we stayed in was a block from the waterfront. We stayed in two different apartments (initially, our room had bunkbeds and a double bed - the owner offered us a sunnier unit for subsequent nights, but it required a mattress on the floor for one child, so the first room probably suited us better). Both units were cosy (they're studios!) but were kitted out with dishes/ coffee maker (with coffee)/ pots, a table with chairs and a sitting area. I believe they have slightly bigger studios as there was a family of five staying there also. A small grocery store is just down the street, and our guesthouse was two or three blocks from the city center. We were able to park on the street, and Thor, the owner, directed me via phone to his location, meeting us outside at 1 am due to the lateness of our flight. We felt very welcomed in the big city, and were happy with our stay.

  • Liked — Friendliness of the owner
  • Disliked — When we switched to the sunnier apartment, one child needed to sleep on a mattress on the floor due to space issues.
