“Couldn't have asked for better!”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

My husband and I stayed with the Centerhotel Arnarhvoll for 7 nights and we were very pleased with our choice of hotel. The hotel was as far as we were concerned ideally situated on the harbour with only a 5 min walk to all shops and resturants and directly across from the Harpa, we had read that Reykjavik center hotels were very noisy at the weekends but this hotel was situated just far enough to not be concerned with this, the only noise we heard was people leaving during the night for there flights home etc and this is unavoidable in any hotel. The rooms themselves were not huge but they rarely are in a city but it did provide us with everything we needed, tea & coffee facilities, hairdryer, well stocked mini bar and most importantly a clean and comfortable room, the only thing within the room that we had a little grumble about was the bed is two singles pushed together and two single duvets but by the end of the week I was appreciating the fact my husband could not steal my covers! Staff were all friendly and were there for any questions you had about hotel/city and the Sky Bar had magnificent views over Esja which as we know Iceland is expensive for alcohol had a happy hour every day from 5pm-7pm if I remember correctly this is also where breakfast is served and we were spoilt for choice, bacon, eggs, sausages, varieties of breads, fresh fruit in abundance, porridge and a very nice flapjack! We will without a doubt return to Reykjavik and this will be the hotel we return too!

Room Tip: Always ask for a sea view.

There are so many positives about this hotel:
- We stayed on the 7th floor with room facing the ocean. The view is wonderful.
- Free wifi
- Breakfast is included. The 8th floor area (where breakfast is served) has great view
- Good location and within walking distance to Reykjavik city center
- Friendly staff

I definitely would recommend this hotel.

Great location and the views from the 8th floor breakfast area & bar are spectacular! We stayed 2 nights in October 2013 in a standard double room. Very clean and efficient. Small by American standards but that's to be expected in Europe. The décor was quite nice and modern. The hotel located right on the water and only a few blocks from the main street and most attractions. We easily walked everywhere. Breakfast was delicious and even as a vegetarian, I had plenty of options. My only complaint would be the shower. There is a drain in the floor of the bathroom and the entire bathroom ends up soaked and there isn't a ventilation fan to better dry the room. I would also suggest asking for a room away from the dumpsters. We didn't mind having a less than amazing view but being woken up an 6:30am by trash trucks was an unfortunate start to the day. Regardless, a great value & location!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the dumpsters with a view of the water

I was impressed with this hotel. Great value in Reykjavik. Off the main street but close enough to walk to everything. Great views of the harbor from the Sky Lounge that is used for the free breakfast in the morning (note, breakfast was very crowded at 7am because all guest were heading out to tours by 8:30). Great, well maintained spa area in the basement with a hot tub, steam room and sauna that was so nice to use after a day caught in the rain. I stayed in a single room that was a good size for one or two people although no real closets or drawers to place things in. Beds are covered with feather beds for warmth. The bathroom is on the small size with a Euro shower (no bathtub or shower stall) but worked for me.

This hotel is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Reykjavik. Walkable to all the cafés , restaurants, and bars! Extraordinarily clean, and although there are no frills, this hotel is perfect for your stay. We did not mind Euro style shower and smaller size of room. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is perfect for a couple. Breakfast is included and sits atop the 8th floor with a great view of the harbor. Breakfast includes breads , pastry, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage and of course coffee, juice, and tea! We very much enjoyed our 3 night stay!

We were supposed to stay in the sister hotel on the main street, however as we were planning a relaxing break the hotel kindly transferred us to Arnarhvoll, with a free of charge upgrade to use the sauna etc, this more than made up for the one restless night staying in the other hotel.

The staff both at the other hotel and here were friendly and helpful. Going over and above to help. Room was ready for us straight away and on a high floor. We had a view of the Harpa conference centre and the bay. The decor was pleasant, minimalist, clean and the bed was really comfortable. There was also a safe in the room.

Breakfast was good, lots of choice and able to make own waffles also fantastic views from the breakfast room.

Location is great, close to the centre, but also far enough away to avoid the noise of Main Street.
We used the spa included robes and slippers to use! It was nice modern facility and often only ourselves there felt like private spa!

Only slight negative, it would be that the hotel name isn't too easy to pronounce when trying to ask for taxi or pick up for excursions!!

Room Tip: High floor and opt for deluxe room and spa package.

The staff is very helpful and accomodating and the location is really good and in walking distance to the shops and restaurants.
Also the fleamarket and Harpa is just across the street.
The breakfast buffet is not all that impressive, but there is something for everybody.
The view from the skybar (where breakfast is served) is very, very beautuiful though, so remember to bring your camera!
The room is small, there is no closet, the bathroom had a tub but no exhaust device and there was really cold. Even though we turned up the heat, is was still quite cold, but no so cold that I wanted to complain :-) The bed was very comfy.
I would not mind staying here again another time.
