This is a hotel designed for travellers on a budget. The hotel location is right on the waterfront which means that all of the fun, older parts of the city are within easy walking distance. This is an excellent feature, and is the only reason I've given this place a third star.

You should be aware that the rooms are tiny and noisy, with minimal features and the worst beds I have ever attempted to sleep in. The breakfast buffet is mediocre but will give you agood start to your day.

Our room was spacious, clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The only thing that was a bit tricky was showering in the bathroom, to try and avoid splashing too much on the floor, We had a sea-view room on the 5th floor which was fantastic. We enjoyed the spectacular view at breakfast time in the restaurant/skybar. The reception staff were very helpful with all our questions, prebooking restaurants, airport transfer and even arranging an early breakfast for us because we had to leave at 4.15am in the morning. The location is great, easy walking distance into the main area of town. I would definitely consider staying here again. Overall good value for money!

This Centerhotel property is one of several in Reykjavik. Located as close to the water as possible in this city, it's an average Scandinavian hotel with a large lobby, 2 elevators, and 7 floors of rooms. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. There was a minibar, a flat screen television with a handful of channels, and a hair dryer. The in-room wi-fi worked well. The only drawback for me was that the room faced the back of the property which overlooked parking lots and office buildings. My room was directly above the exit for the staff's smoke break area. The front desk staff were all friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the city. On several occasions they assisted me with making changes to tour pickup locations and times. The 5th floor is where hotel guests take their breakfast, Scandinavian buffet-style, with fantastic views of the harbour, Harpa, and the city. There is a happy hour in the evenings from 5-7pm with reduced tap beer prices (500ISK) and a small menu. This property is about 5 blocks walk to the main walking street in town, Laugavegur. It's several blocks walk to the old party of the city, but virtually right across the street from the Harpa and the water. Request a room with a view of the water, or if you receive a room at the back of the hotel, I would suggest it be higher up.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the water.

I want to like this hotel more as it has many positive elements: location, decent room sizes for Scandinavia but it falls short for individual travelers and is better suited to tour groups- indeed that is the major problem. I have stayed here on three different occasions - the larger rooms facing the harbor are nice, and reasonably priced in off season. The downside: the rooms, lobby, halls and elevators are all showing signs of excessive wear. In summer the lobby is invariably full of large, loud groups of people checking in/out or waiting for tour buses to pick them up. It's as though it were a depot station for a back packers hostel. The 8th floor restaurant doubles as the breakfast room - and breakfast at peak season is like "Lord of the Flies". The number of people stuffed into this modest sized room and the frenetic pace is not conducive to a relaxing holiday breakfast- you will NOT want to linger here to enjoy the view over the harbor which is a shame. The breakfast is also pretty dull- again, it's something you would find in larger hotels catering to tour groups- which is at odds with a location that promotes itself as a 'design hotel'.
The decor is clean if a bit sterile. Rooms on higher floors facing the harbor and Harpa are very nice - other rooms can be dismal: for instance i was recently placed on a ground level room that gave out on to the back parking lot: the view was basement level and looked up onto parked cars; the sound of 25 people checking in at the lobby was amplified to the point where it would have been actually quieter in the lobby (!!); also the room smelled of cigarette smoke from outside and techno music was playing somewhere near by. I envisioned and dreaded a sleepless night ahead of me.
To the hotel's credit: i asked for another room and despite being pretty full, they juggled things and managed to move me to the 4th floor. Much better room. Two minuses here though: stray hairs filled the bottom of the tub. Fine: I was given this room at the last moment, and had to rush to a dinner. I returned late and exhausted. I decided to take a hot bath. When i drained the tub of water I noticed water was seeping from all points between the floor and walls: not just around the tub but all four walls and from under the door jam: i have never seen anything like this before- an obvious drainage issue. By the time the tub had fully drained the floor was soaked. It was past midnight at this point and I just went to bed resigning myself to a damp floor.
This is indicative of how much wear is placed on this location day after day.
They need to invest in maintaining this location as it is worth it. On the plus side, having stayed at a few of the CenterHotels in Reykjavik: customer service has improved greatly- the staff were much more friendly and service oriented than i have ever experience in the past five plus years i have been visiting Iceland.

Room Tip: ask for room facing the harbor if available and avoid the ground level at all costs

This hotel, while not fancy does everything very well. It was friendly, comfortable and right across from the Harpa music hall in downtown. The view from the rooftop bar/restaurant is amazing. The room was basic but comfortable, the rooms quiet and very clean. The bathroom took a bit of getting used to as it's meant to be a wet room, not a separate shower and bathroom but it's fine. Very recommended.

Located right across the street from the beautiful Harpa concert hall with great views of the ocean (especially from the restaurant located on the top floor). The rooms are smaller with Scandinavian style furniture but they are very clean and cozy. The shower "area" was interesting in that a single plexiglass half wall separated the shower from the rest of the bathroom. It made for some messy mornings. The staff were friendly and very helpful (above the norm vs. other Reykjavik hotels in which I stayed). The included breakfast was great - several buffet options from which to choose. I would recommend this hotel to those looking for a nice, mid-range hotel.

All around fairly decent hotel in a pretty good location. The rooms are nice enough (though my TV didn't work), and have good blinds for blocking out the sunlight (handy given the fact it's almost never dark here in the summer!) I don't think you'll be unhappy with yourself for booking here, but it won't add much to your trip either. If you're just looking for somewhere to pass out at the end of the night it's probably not a bad option.
