“Decent place to stay for a long weekend”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

I stayed here last weekend (March 8-11). My stay was okay. Not great but not bad. This hotel is located right across the concert hall and has a scenic view. Ask for a room facing the water. The rooms are rather small, especially the bathrooms. There are only 4 rooms with bathtubs and all other rooms have this plastic flap that turns your bathroom into a shower. However, everything gets wet. I had to change outside the bathroom after showering. I couldn't leave my towel or clothes inside or it would be all soaked. The beds were comfy. I stayed on the 6th floor and I didn't have any trouble with noise or hear the elevator door or footsteps. The hotel does lack a bit in staff. The front desk is the go-to for everything from wake up call to making reservations to concierge service. I sometimes have to wait 10-15 minutes when the person in front of me is asking about places to go and directions meanwhile I just needed to get my key card reactivated. In terms of the breakfast buffet, there is a nice spread of American and European selections. From fruits and cheese, to bread, to eggs and bacon, they do try to give as much of a variety as possible. I must say the hotel is conveniently located between the shops, restaurants, and everything else. The town is small so everything is within footsteps.

Everything is within a 5 minute walk. It might be wet and cold, but it is Iceland. 2 for 1 happy hour in the lobby every night. Typical Icelandic/Scandinavian breakfast on top floor overlooking the harbor. Small rooms. We never figured out the TV or heating system (lots of street noise with windows open).

I stayed at this hotel after reading the reviews on this site. The location is great, right in the heart of Reykjavik. Our room and the breakfast dining area have fantastic views over the harbour with the mountains in the distance. The rooms was a little small but we survived. The staff were very accomodating and arranged all our travel and trips.

We returned to reykjavik this year and decided to stay in the same hotel as the location is fantastic and the views from the breakfast room are lovely. The hotel is nice and the staff very friendly but I was a little disappointed with our room this year, last year the room was small but big enough with a nice view at the front and a small table and 2 chairs, this year we were given a side room with a window floor to ceiling that was only about a foot wide with no view, the room was very small and felt like a box with no room to sit other than on the bed. Trips were very good and very well organised although Iceland is very expensive. We saw the northern lights last year but were unlucky this time as the sky was too cloudy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front

This hotel has a great location as it is near everywhere you want to be when you have had enough of lagoons, volcanic rocks and waterfalls. The staff is attentive and helpful catering to your every need.

We stayed in this hotel mid December 2012. Our stay was pretty good. The room was very clean (brand new) like rest of the hotel. But very small also, especially the bathroom. And as you're taking quite some stuff with you in Iceland (BIG jackets and boots) this is somewhat annoying. As is also the heating in the hotel..it is getting really hot in the room. But just a warning: this is the case everywhere in Iceland. They turn up the heat inside the building to tropical temperatures. The breakfast is served at 8th floor, so you really have a nice view, although in the morning it is still dark. You still have a view of the lights of Reykjavik and this is really nice. The breakfast room is also new and big enough so you have some privacy (I don't like 'breakfast'-neighbours). The breakfast itself was fine, all was fresh. A few options (bread, coffee, yoghurt) but I like it bit more variety, expecially if you stay a bit longer. Very helpful staff @ reception. They helped us booking various sight seeing trips and rent of a car.
The hotel is very close to the main shopping street and of walking distance of all sights in Reykjavik (bit most attractions are outside Reykjavik so you shoud take a ride anyways).

The location is very central for government buildings, shopping streets. This hotel is the closest to the conference/concert centre. Rooms are clean, basically ok. The main issue is with bathroom design - you can't take a shower without wetting the whole bathroom. Breakfast room has a nice views.
