“Good for a rainy day”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

I spent hours here looking at all the exhibits. It is well worth a visit. You come away with a very good understanding of Iceland's history. Very interesting.

“Very informative museum”
Reviewed August 4, 2014

This museum has won several awards and it is certainly a very interesting museum of the history of Iceland. A great way to learn about the history of the country, especially the early years, in a couple of hours.

“Iceland is filled with tiny museums, including the National Museum of Iceland”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

I was really, really excited to go to the National Museum of Iceland, which was just around the corner from our rental! When I arrived, the front desk person was so rude and, frankly, snooty that I left and came back the next day. Nevermind that I was with a professional academic who studies Norse mythology! (joke's on you, rude front desk lady). We returned the next day and were interested to some degree in the second floor but wondered why the Edda wasn't there, where were the sagas, and what was with the seemingly desperate time-capsule of Iceland being featured? The top floor was filled primarily with average items from peoples' homes. We saw the highlights of Iceland, I suppose, and the turf house reconstruction was interesting, as were the two mummies, but it was a small and slightly smug museum with less substance than one would desire for the price or hype.

“Not too exciting”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

It is a small museum. A lot about the spread of christianity in Iceland and early settlements. Mostly artifacts uncovered during excavations of early settlers sites. We were expecting to see more about the volcanos and geo-thermal resources, but there was absolutely nothing about that topic. There is a free guided tour at 11 AM, which lasts about 40 min. which is about all it takes to visit.

“Really nice best museum in Iceland !”
Reviewed July 30, 2014

We went to a few in Iceland but found this most interesting. It's had lots to see and we learnt a lot about the country. It gave us a real flavour for where we were. Not too expensive. We spent just under 2 hours there as it is only too floors.
