Not too big and well done museum. Even though we are older, we especially enjoyed the kids room where we got to wear Viking clothing and armor.

I learned a lot about the history of Iceland and the first settlers.
I could imagine that it would be of great interest for children as well.
There was also an extra exhibition showing some of the silver pieces and some short films how silver-smithing is done and this was also fascinating.
The café is also very good as is the selection in the bookstore.

If there's one thing Icelandic people are, it's proud of their heritage, and the two stories of this museum are packed with it. There are tools from the early time, as well as bones of ancestors, wood carvings, silver work, and of course a sailing ship! It's so full of information that it will take at least 3 hours or more than one visit!
This is a must see!

I made a visit at the National Museum of Iceland in 2012 and it offers some spectacular insight into the old Nordic and Icelandic world and its religion and history. My only complaint is the relatively small size of the place.

while it was difficult (maybe it was just us) to find the entrance door to the museum, it was worth it. A large and varied collection of interesting artifacts
