“Clear and excellent presentation of Iceland's history!”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Clear and excellent presentation of Iceland's history! It was a nice way to spend two hours and had a fun feature--there was a room in which you could dress up in Viking gear or other historical icelandic attire (for men, women, and children).

“Fantastic”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Skip the Culture House and head to this museum to learn about the history of Iceland and the rise of Icelandic culture. Fascinating exibits showing the early settlements, rise of Christianity, the story of the sagas and Book of Icelanders, and other important cultural points that make Iceland Iceland.

“Be sure to visit”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

Beautifully laid out tour of the development of Iceland. There is a cloak room downstairs where you will need to leave backpacks or large packages in keyed lockers (free of charge). Unlike many museums, you are free to take photos but interior lighting for many displays is quite low, even with the option to push a button for additional light -- set your camera accordingly. The third floor offers a bank of computers, complete with earphones, where you can scroll through historical facts in a number of areas. There is a coffee shop adjacent to a small gift shop. Enjoy your visit!

“Great for an overview of Icelandic history.”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

Well-labelled in English as well as Icelandic, and well laid-out. Lots of touch-screens with more detail about the exhibits and their contexts (and lots of places to sit). It all goes satisfying chronologically, ending up with a really great table of every day articles. The only slight criticism is that some of the displays are quite dark.
Quirky cafe with a good selection of snacks and drinks, too, and a a nice walk alongside the "pond", especially if you stick to the eastern side.

excellent presentation of the history of Iceland with English on all the exhibits. The exhibits portrayed the history from the beginning of human habitation in an interesting fashion
