It was pretty good, however, there was nothing that I found too interesting.

We didn't know much Icelandic history before we came, but the National Museum did it proud (up till the 20th century). The displays are attractive and there are interactive displays that allow you to dig deeper into the subject if you want to know more. The exhibitions are on two floors and cover the history thoroughly until about the 1920s. (Not much was said about the British and American occupation during WWII and later NATO base.) I also enjoyed the special exhibits on fashion and particularly the embroidery work of a local woman on national costume. Nicely displayed, good explanations and interesting artifacts.

Very interesting museum covering christian and medieval history on 1st floor and modern history on 2nd. Really liked the 60s fashion display and inventions from 1900 to 2010. Lovely modern building.

We saw artifacts that represented periods in Iceland's history wonderfully, and they were even more informative because of their highly professional displays and accompanying text. There was just the right amount of stuff, too--an impressive bounty but not too overwhelming for a two-hour visit. We were able to leave feeling we really had a sense of Iceland's history and culture.

A well presented, chronological tour through the history of Iceland with many interesting exhibits and engaging texts in English as well as Icelandic. Allow an hour and a half or so to find out more about this remarkable country and don't miss the exhibition of photographs at the rear of the shop.
