“Very Chic Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2010

My husband and I stayed here for four nights in November when visiting Iceland on vacation. The hotel lobby is very chic and sexy with a waterfall, dim lighting and a sexy little bar. The breakfast is free (which is great considering the food in Iceland is super expensive) and offers a nice selection. The hotel staff were incredibly nice and very helpful, willing to offer advice on restaurants, give you directions, help organize tours, and your ride back to the hotel.

The rooms are small but very nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Our bathroom had glass walls which makes using the restroom a little...ahem....less private than I'm comfortable with and the shower had no walls so the first time I used it the water flooded the bathroom floor and actually seeped into the room. The beds were super comfy and the flat screen tv was a nice perk (even if there weren't a ton of channels).

One small drawback was that our flight got in at 6:40 am (from Boston) and by the time we got to the hotel (using the flybus) it was probably around 8:30 am and we were EXHAUSTED. In order to check into our hotel early and get breakfast that morning we had to pay $75. We felt like we didn't have much choice since we were so exhausted and if we hadn't payed the extra we couldn't have checked in until 2:00 or 3:00. So...just plan on spending the $75.

My husband and I have just returned from a fabulous trip to Iceland where we stayed at the CenterHotel Thingholt. We really would both thoroughly recommend this hotel. The decor is extremely stylish and also very Icelandic. The room was a good size with v comfortable beds. We expected the noise from the street on a Friday and Saturday night would be much louder- we slept through it. The staff were very helpful in booking tours etc. Location is fantastic. Look no further for a great place to stay.

Ample - hot water, breakfast.
Creative - lobby, decor
Comfortable - bed (though a touch hard)
Unexpected - so close to museums, restaurants, shops
Really appreciated - tub, BBC channels, kettle, fridge
To be aware - noise from floor to floor, late night street noise

We will return!

This hotel has personality!
The location was excellent, close to shops and dining. Its where the action is!
The down comforters were cozy and the hotel was modern and clean. Two of my classmates switched their hotels to stay there. We could walk everywhere:)
It was one of the nicest places I have ever stayed without being too pretentious.
the breakfast buffets were full of healthy, delicious options. I especially liked the hazelnuts for my cereal.

The hotel itself was fantastic. It was in a great location and the room had a lot of interesting and unique features. Additionally, our room was extremely quiet which was wonderful considering we arrived at 6am after a red-eye. We were able to take a rejuvinating mid-afternoon nap without any interruptions.

We chose to stay at a hotel rather than try to rent an apartment for the advantage of hotel staff offering advice on things to do and places to see in Reykjavik and around Iceland. However, all of the front desk workers throughout our one night stay were not friendly and we did not feel comfortable asking them questions. Additionally, we were charged 50 euros to check in at 8am when we arrived, even though our room was ready and we had not asked for early check in.

Additionally, I am working out a double payment issue with my credit card. My card was charged when I made the reservation a month before our stay and was charged again when we stayed. The breakfast was an additional 11 euro charge, so we took advantage of the nearby bakeries instead.

This hotel had great location, right in the center of town.
Very modern and fun.
The staff was very good, prompt and helpful. Breakfast was very good.

negatives:
If you stay in a room facing the street, it is really noisy on the weekend.
the free wifi was very slow, and only available in the lobby.
They did over charge for snacks which we never had. Had to call and dispute a few dollars with the bank cause the hotel manager did not respond to our email.

We stayed at this hotel at both the beginning and end of our week long trip in Iceland. It was easy to find as we navigated our way into Reykjavik, and we had no problems finding street parking very close by.

The hotel was clean (and warm!) and the decor was very nice. The hotel rooms were small, but very efficient - they had space for everything we needed. Loved the bathrooms and showers! Breakfast was large and delicious - it had everything we could want and certainly helpe us get started on the mornings when the sun was hours from rising. All sait, it was a GREAT deal for the price we paid. But the proce was only available online and not at the hotel - we booked our last night by walking down the street to use the internet to book our room.

It was easy to walk from the hotel to all of the places we wanted to go! It snowed in Reykjavik on our last day and the city was beautiful with its layer of winter white.
