“Not the best hotel I have stayed in”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

Went to Iceland on a Fly drive deal with Icelandair. Spent 1 night here and then on to remote hotel for 2 nights and back here for final night.

First stay was disappointing - room felt like a 'sleeping box' - extremely compact. Hotel served no food except breakfast. We were booked for a Northern lights trip on the first evening and it would have been good to have food available. Nevertheless, nothing wrong with a Subway I suppose! (The northern light trip was exremely successful - amazing views of lights)

When we returned at the end of our trip we were upgraded to a Junior Suite which was much more like it.(perhaps they were too embarrassed to give another 'sleep box')
Hotel is very modern and clean, but has no soul in it.

Breakfast was very mediocre - cold bacon and solid scrambled egg, no fresh fruit and with unenthusiastic lads running it.Situation was good for shopping and bus station.
Very helpful receptionist when we left - she stored our cases after checkout, and then carried them up the steps to the street without any hesitation. Thank You.

Room Tip: Try to get a Junior Suite - they are the size of an average hotel room

We were very pleased with this hotel. The room was not big but it met our needs. The bathroom was modern and everything was very clean. The breakfast was outstanding. The morning we arrived for check in it was only 8 am so they stored our bags and offered us breakfast which was great since there was no food on the plane. The food covered everything from eggs and bacon to herring and and more local traditional food. They were expanding the space when we checked out and I agree because it was packed between 8:30 and 10.

There was a nice bar in the lobby area and we stopped there first each night before we headed out into town. The happy hour was 2 for 1 drinks. The hotel w filled with mainly New Yorkers and Brits. It was a nice mix of people and we met interesting people every night at the bar.

The location of this hotel was perfect. It was very easy to stop in after shopping or drop by to change on our way to the next destination. It was cold in Reykjavik so it was nice to have the hotel so centrally located.

Great location, friendly helpful staff. We had booked a standard room, our first room ( 413 ) was tiny even so that we found it difficult to move around with our bags in the room with us, mentioned this to reception and asked if they had a bigger room as we didn't want to be tripping over our bags for 3 days. Staff were happy to help and found us an other larger standard room ( 405 ) Rooms are clean and everything is in good working order.Breakfast is included and is fantastic ( nice little touch ) there's not heaps of choice but everything is fresh and staff ensure that nothing runs out.
Overall great hotel and I would stay here again.

We stayed here for our weekend long layover in Iceland at the end of a week in France & Belgium. It's located in the heart of Reykjavik & we were happy to know we could walk nearly everywhere. We were upgraded to a loft suite (room 307) upon arrival. It's a clean, modern hotel, but to me, the hotel decor was cold & dark - the hallways were nearly black. The staff were pleasant & helped us book excursions. Breakfast was great. As we stayed over the weekend, it did get quite noisy in our room at night when the bars let out, but that didn't bother us. We would definitely stay again - or maybe even check out one of their other hotels!

Visited Iceland in late January for 5 nights, stayed at this hotel twice, one night at the beginning and 2 nights at the end of our stay.

First night we were located on the 3rd floor, facing the street. No noticable noise from revelers on a Thursday night. Nice room with a large white leather couch and 2 double beds.

At the end of our stay, we arrived late Saturday night and were upgraded to a room on the 3rd floor. This room had a sunken living area with a couch and desk. There were 2 TVs, one in the living room, one in the bedroom. This room was also facing the street. We didn't hear any street noise during the night, but we were disturbed around 3:00 am by noisy neighbors having naughty fun (you can guess what I mean, right?). They had a lot of fun, multiple times.....

The bathroom situation is a bit dicey with frosted glass that leaves nothing to the imagination. Our 2nd room had a little more privacy than the first because there was a wall next to the toilet instead of just glass. We were creative and usually asked the other person to leave the room when one of us wanted private bathroom time.

The breakfast buffet was very good, it didn't vary while we were there but that was fine. The offerings were very good, with scrambled (maybe baked?) eggs, bacon, sausauges, sliced meat, cheese, Cheerios-like cereal, Skyr (my new favorite!!), granola, breakfast pastries and toast.

All our interactions with the staff were great, they were helpful and knowledgable when we needed directions. The location is perfect, right around the corner from stores, restuarants and bars.

The Italian restaurant around the corner, Caruso's (I think), was very good.

All in all, a very nice, clean hotel in a great location.

The Thingholt is in a superb location very nearby good shops, restaurants and bars. It was clean with modern decor. We had a lovely comfortable deluxe room on the 2nd floor facing the back. Again very clean with an extremely comfy bed, leather sofa and a large bathroom with shower including shower gel/handwash/shampoo and a full size hairdryer. Being at the back our view wasn't very inspiring but it meant it was quieter on a Friday and Saturday evening. We heard minimal noise from outside. The only slight issue was the ventilation units housed directly outside the windows on the 2nd floor at the back. The noise from these units was noticeable on our first night but improved as our week went by. The hotel offered a good buffet breakfast of pastries, croissants, ham, cheese, toast, cereals and some daily hot items. Overall the staff were very helpful and pleasant but some lacked a smile.

We had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely return to the Thingholt.

Room Tip: We had room 205 at the back of the hotel which was quieter but we did have the slight issue of the v...

Stayed here for one night before flying back at the end of our trip and wished we could have stayed longer. The service was impeccable with really friendly staff. The hotel does seem to have life to it too with a happy hour from 5. This may sound tacky but l actually thought it was quite nice as it got people out of their rooms and we managed to have a nice chat with other guests.

The rooms aren't entirely to my taste but are really very clean, comfy and had my best nights sleep.

I would definitely stay here again. Good location too.
