We spent 4 nights at Hotel Thingholt from Oct 26-30. Perfect location! The receptionists were so wonderful and helpful with booking day trips and flybus. We stayed through the weekend but didn't have any problems with noise as our room was at the back of the hotel. The breakfast room had a great variety of food to choose from. Cereal, fruits, pastries, cold cuts, and a few hot items. The granola bars were so good. If you love modern decor and being in a great location, this hotel is awesome.

Decent hotel with a great location, but not a good if you're hoping to sleep (at least on the weekend). We made the mistake of booking here on a Friday and Saturday night and were kept up by local club noise from midnight until 5:00 AM. Would be a great hotel if you're in Reykjavik to party all night long; not so great if you have day time activities planned.

We spent quite a long time looking for the right hotel for our long weekend break to Reykjavik, and we found it with the Hotel Thingholt. Really good location for walking into the old part of Reykjavik and the harbour - so really easy for restaurants etc. The hotel itself is contemporary in its decor (dark stone, leather headboards, glass walk to separate the bathroom from the bedroom) - the rooms are really nice. The service is excellent, the team in the hotel could have not been more helpful with directions, an early breakfast on check out and a few local tips to assist our travels. If you drive to the hotel, you can park your car on the road outside. It is free parking between 1800-1000hrs, during the hours of 1000-1800hrs it cost 80krona an hour. We had no problems parking our car, but we did go in Oct.

Room Tip: We stayed in a standard room, which was fine. Large enough and an excellent shower.

The hotel is very centrally located and clean with free wi-fi and the staff are friendly, if not somewhat overstretched by being bartender as well as receptionist. The breakfast buffet (included in our rate) was very good with the exception of the coffee - which was not at all nice. We asked for a cappucino and were prepared to pay extra for this but they did not have the means to make coffee, just what seemed to be instant coffee. Our room rate was very competitive and the beds were comfortable but the rooms are somewhat small. I would have liked for hair conditioner to be available in the bathrooms - the water from the Blue Lagoon leaves hair extremely dry and brittle but worth it! The lighting in the bedroom had several dimming options of thish I never mastered.

Initially was not planning to pay for early checkin but after a long flight and then a 60 minute bus ride(flybus+) to the hotel, just didn't have the energy to just sit around in the lobby for 2+ hours for the room since stores weren't open yet with the exception of a few cafe's. It was well worth the 50 Euros to just settle in though. So we reserved a queen bedroom and come to find out that they put two twin beds side to side...lol. Couldn't really tell until you attempt to lay down in the middle of the bed. Regardless, the bed was comfortable unless you tried to sleep in the middle of the two mattresses since the gap was pronounced. Should note that our room was on the street side so that has impacted this review. So, the good points: friendly hotel service and location, location, location. This hotel is right off their "main street" so access to the water, restaurants, bar, convenience store, etc.. is only minutes away which is perfect if your walking around. The bad point: as previously stated on other posts, The Nightlife noise from the "location, location, location". A previous post about "earplugs" is not an exaggeration. The hotel is very close to the bars/lounges that you can definitely hear the nightlife all night long and it appears that the revelers tend to get a late start so most lounges don't get going til late. One night, we actually got dressed up again and went back out... if you can't beat'em, join'em right? Probably wouldn't stay here again unless your a deep sleeper or have earplugs....

Here's what's good to know: They will give you early check in for an extra 50 Euros ("If the room is ready."). We arrived in Iceland in the early morning, and early check in was worth it to us in spite of the extra cost. We were in luck: the room was ready. Our Junior Suite was on the 3rd floor. If you are sensitive to smells and scents, this room was deliciously clean-smelling. Not only that, it was deliciously clean.

The shower was powerful, but note: VERY difficult to regulate -- we were both scalded and frozen at various intervals. Also, the tub was QUITE high to step into -- if we come here again, we would book a room WITHOUT a tub. Also, be aware that the bathroom door is frosted glass, and you can pretty much hear EVERYTHING that's going on inside the bathroom. So, if that fabulously rich dinner didn't agree with you... be advised. Your roommate will get an earful.

We loved the modern look, the decor, the concrete bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The linens were fresh and clean. Breakfast was very satisfying and offered a great variety of choices from cold cuts, herring, eggs, to breads, rolls, fruits, yogurt, and of course, coffee, tea, juices, milk, etc.

It is important to note, if your room is facing the street side, get ready for some wild night-life noises. These can carry on well into the wee hours of the morning. If you're a light sleeper, you may want to take this into consideration. Again, I think room placement is important here. We thought we'd be spared the noise (already knew about it when we booked due to other reviews) because we were booking mid-week. But. Alas and allures.... Iceland apparently never sleeps. It's a young, vibrant, party-hardy city, and it does not recognize the days of the week. This is great if you are going for it, mmmmm, not so great if you thought you were going to get some sleep that night. It's all in what you're looking for.

Service was fine. You can't beat the location -- within walking distance of the entire city of Reykjavik!

Room Tip: Higher rooms, not street side, get a room with a shower not a tub

We spent 5 nights here in September. The location is great, with shops and restaurants right outside your door. But great location can also be a problem in terms of sleep quality; the nightclubs in the area are open until 5 a.m and you won't miss a single beat unless you wear earplugs during the night unfortunately... Additionally, the window in our room could not be closed properly, so it was extremely noisy. Some of the surfaces in the room (like desk and nightstand) were not cleaned when we arrived. Breakfast was satisfactory, but the breakfast room has no daylight and you feel like you're eating breakfast in the evening ;-) The staff is helpful and friendly, although a bit reserved. If you rent a car, be aware that the hotel has no parking spaces to offer, so you need to park in public spots nearby for a fee between 10 a.m and 6 p.m.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as far away from the main street as possible.
